Would you invest in a SKS?

I used to have a Norinko in a Draganov-style stock but for some reason it never did grow on me but recently I picked up a Soviet 1945 Tula refurb from Lever and it just hit the spot ( so much so that I went and got another LOL ! )

Seriously, great fun little carbines that allow you to shoot centrefire at a discount price.

Or the Mausers,Garands,Vz 52/57,FN 49,Springfield 03 etc.....

The Russians are the collectors of the future.

the reason i said LE bcos they were plentiful back in the 60s like the russian SKS now. the VZ52/57 were never plentiful.

Thousands of innocent SKS rifles are homeless. Do the right thing and adopt one today. Embrace one, give it a name, and feed it plenty of inexpensive surplus ammo. It's the right thing to do.

x 2 - finally bought one :), and loving how light , simple  and workmanlike it is....:D....military semi-auto's from that era were often baffling (I've an Ljungman that I'm terrified of taking down :p, and sometimes even of cocking.....), but the SKS is a marvel :dancingbanana: - both in comparison , as well as in its own right!

The SKS was the second gun I bought after a sporterized Enfield. Then I bought an 870 Express, then a Walther P22, then an M&P .40, then I picked up a Mossberg 26c single shot .22lr, then I got a Mosin 1944 Carbine and a October 1945 Jungle Carbine, then I got a 1200 Defender 12g and a S&W model 60 .357 magnum and a baby eagle 9mm, the 9mm Tokarev M213 came in the mail shortly after that but I had to have a Mossberg plinkster, an M305 Norinco M14 and a second SKS so I picked those up. I picked up a parker-hale .303 sporter and a CZ858-2 next, and now I'm getting a pardner H&R single shot 12g, a lever action 30-30 1894 and a Remington 700 :)

lol this was all since April

Would you buy one of those cheap SKS's just for fun? Why or why not? Pros, Cons, and so on...:ar15:

Invest? Initially I told myself they might be good investments. But 70,000 Marstar units inbound, plus the stock still on Lever Arm's shelves/warehouse tell me that there are probably better investments out there. At 200 bucks apiece, which sounds like a rock bottom price for a quality military surplus centerfire semi-auto, it is a rock solid buy, for a shooter.

If you luck out on an unissued, unfired 49, for 200 bucks then keep it, you got your retirement nestegg. :D

But firearms have always been toys, for me at least, so all my toys are shooters.

Well except this one SKS where I got lucky and found a non-refurb 51 with gold colored bayonet at Lever Arms for 200 bucks. No refurb marks anywhere, all matching including birch stock, and info on the stickies tell me it is a non-refurb. It has been issued to the Red Army as evidenced by some honest blueing wear on the sling loop in the gas port fitting, butt plate, front sight, muzzle. I will shoot a few rounds through this piece to prove it works and keep it as a cheapo safe queen. Maybe it will appreciate, I am not counting on it though. I have other SKS shooters to play with.

Buy? Only if prices come down some more. Got enough and I'm happy with what I have.

My wish is for cheaper ammo. $170 for 1,200 rds is still too much, IMO.

Congrats on your latest find at Lever. What I am finding there are some real nice rifles hitting you right in the face as soon as you walk into the store. No more need to route through to many to find the right one.
