We are looking to do a custom run of Savage rifles in 308 with 18.5" barrels.

Which is of more interest:

Stevens 200 w/"Tenifer" finish ~$399
Savage 11FCNS with detach mag and accutrigger w/"Tenifer" finish ~$599

These will be completely factory guns.

Any other suggestions for options are welcome

You read my mind!

I was just pondering a build along these lines. I think that the 11 is a better option, and i think some sort of ghost ring would be the ticket. Perhaps with the rear built into a scope base.:D

Savage uses a Williams WGRS peep site on their Scout Model...
Savage changed the rear receiver some time back when they came out with their Accura Trigger line.. From flat to round or visa/versa ... I don't know if they changed the Stevens rear receive at the same time or not.. Something to be aware of..
I suspect that the front site on the Scout is made by Williams also...

One point I see with these guns for the bush is that the inherent heavy bolt lift, with both models, will detract from the light, agile feeling of the guns themselves. Fast follow up shots may not be a matter of course. Solve that problem and you have a winner.

The .308 is a perfect utilitarian calibre that will be considered for purchase by the most people. Straying from that is likely a business decision for the future but mass appeal is likely the best bet. Of course, I am telling you your business, while I am not in business and you are a successful busin........never mind, you know what I mean.
a simple ghost ring set up would be a huge plus.... and those price points are very attractive (but stick with the Savage)
