Was at TnT Gunworks in Regina and the owner told me that primers for 2010 were going to easily go up another 20%
22LR ammo is going to spike by at least 15% percent as well this summer.
Really makes a guys day hearing this news

A guy in a gun shop saying something to get you to buy more stuff? Wow who would have thought?

Unfortunately there seems to be way too much truth in all these rumours this year. I would have thought that companies would have boosted production enough to keep things from being as bad as they are by now.

is this just in your province?

No, we mostly all buy from the same sources and from early pricing we see increases in cost similar to what TNT is reporting. We thought we had seen peak in ammo and component prices but they still are on the rise. This can be confirmed by the lack of availability of bullets, powder, primers and casings. Companies like Hornady assured us at the Shot Show that the would ship more to Canada but as of yet we haven't seen it and are bracing ourselves for increases in cost. My recommendation is to buy whenever it is available because the big reduction in prices (in ammo and components) that some consumers expected is unlikely to occurr any time soon. Phil.

Our reloading component shelves have been decimated as of late and we are worried about getting in anywhere near what we need for this year. We are buying up almost any components that are in stock now with the distibutors and unfortunately they are not offering any great deals because they are in the same boat. Phil.

(P of PDent) thanks for the info! that really sucks!! i am just getting reloading and i dont like the prices as it is. its high b/c of the conflicts in the world or what?

No offense intended, but it's my guess the problem is people like you. The increase in new reloaders is massive. You can see the newbies in every firearms forum asking "I am thinking of getting into /just got into reloading, how do I...". Every equipment maker seems to be experiencing runs on basic tools like presses and starter kits. All those new reloaders are stocking up on components and have created a run. It isn't much different than the run on ammo in 08-09, it was caused by the very people who were complaining about it.

Not that I blame anyone for getting into reloading. If I hadn't been before, I sure as hell would be now. On the bright side, I fully expect to see almost new (dusty) equipment being sold at garage sales in a couple of years, as it has always been my experience that about 1/3 of all people who get into reloading drop out again before loading more than a handful of shells. If anything, I expect that fraction will go up now.

I don't know if anyone cares, but I was just in WSS in Calgary yesterday and they had CCI 200 LRP for $35/1000. They seemed to have a decent amount of stock, too. Bugger all for powder, though.

20% on primers is nothing compared to the price increases on everything else. If you shoot 10,000 rounds a year it could be a big 80-100 bucks more per year. For most people it would be somewhat less.

Same for WSS Winnipeg I was lucky to get any powder and F%&K all for bullets etc....
Pete.....

Calgary had a lot of bullets on the shelves, but I wasn't looking for those. For powder I wanted W231, 2400, IMR4064 and Red Dot. They had W231 and Red Dot, I took a pound of each. They did have a set of Lee .44 Mag dies, though and that was the most important item I was looking for.

If I could find a decent powder and primer supplier online, I would never go in the place. I try to buy everything I can online just to avoid the painful experience of waiting and dealing at their gun counter. If they rearranged the store and put most of the stuff on shelves out front it would sure simplify shopping there. But that is too simple and logical to ever happen.

You know, I've been to WSS in lethbridge 3 times now. Looking for some VERY specific things. And each time walking in I think F*&% this is going to be painful, but each time it has been pretty rewarding. The younger guys at the reloading counter kind of rush you through but they at lest help you find what you need or tell you when they get it next. And behind the firearms counter there was an older man, but damn he was probably the best guy to talk to there. It didn't seem that he was worried about rushing us through, he just chatted with us for a while(actually like 1/2 hour), we checked out a couple of things and we were on our way.

And people will still buy them...

If primers are $7.00 each I wonder what the price of a factory round would be?

Time to drag out the ham radio and scuba gear back out. This hobby is getting a little too pricy for average folk like me. I'm set for components for a few years if I don't buy anything, but it's just getting too stupid to keep this up.

Phil. I'm sure you've thought of this already, but..........have you looked into Sellor&Bellot (sp) for primers, or has the whole world gone nuts ??

All the reloading forums are complaining about primer price and availibility. It's not a pretty picture. There is a lot of hoarding going on, and a fairly large military demand, it doesn't look like it'll improve for a long while from some of the stories I've read lately.

$ 100.00 bucks is coffee money for most people here.

I enjoy a talk to guys who are right into any other sport/hobbies.
Like say golf. Ask them what they spend of stuff, memberships etc.

The guys at work are into high end snow machines and going to the mountains. The law is all sleds must be hauled by a diesel truck, fully loaded of course. Whatever buddy buys is always the best.
Trucks must be traded before they get broken in:confused:

The running joke about G..... and his $15000.00 new sled and T shirt he just got.
They explain the goal is to trade up to a new machine every 2 years.
The old one is no longer good enough or relaiable.
G.....'s last machine was $10000.00.
The joke is the T shirts outlast the sled.
