OK - I have been toying with 3 different setups - X300, M962 with XM switch and E2E with offset mount. I want to see how you guys mount the light and how you employ it. I have seen any position from 9 o'clock to 3 o'clock.

My personal favorite is the E2E on offset mount that puts the light between 10 and 11 o'clock postion.

I also like the M962 with pressure switch at 12.

I tried to use the XM switch with X300 - but I find that tape switch required more pressure than my liking when it is put at 12.

So what do you guys do?
 
I have generally gone with 9 o'clock mounts for a couple of reasons:


1) rails pretty well always have a 9 position

2) getting 1" lights is easy - I use Surefire P6

3) getting 1" picatinny scope rings is also easy

4) I can hit the light's tailcap with my thumb easily in that position


I could see going to a 10 or 11 position for a higher-buck approach for sure, especially as grips have shifted higher and higher. Still, even at the 9 position, it's not exactly hard to find, and it does keep me from resting my thumb there all the time.
 
The newest build is going to be a shorty with a rail pretty much all the way to the FH. X300 or TLR1 will be mounted at 12 oclock (directly over bore) with the flip up iron behind the light. Like this vickers setup but a SBR with a flip up front

I'm a big fan of using a pistol light. The compact package and versatility are the major benifits. I like being able to swap a single light between multiple firearms, including my pistols.

I'm currently running a Steamlight M3 and looking to pick up another similar light.
 
I prefer the 12 o'clock mount but am not willing to spend money on changing my rail set up.So for now it is 3 o'clock on a KAC M4 RAS and a Sure-Fire scout light.

What are the disadvantages (if any) of mounting a pistol light on a rifle? I was reading that was a no-no over on lightfighter.
 
On my AR 15 I enjoy using my D&D's on my Omega rail. As for the light's I generally don't go over the 280 lumen level. Also green laser's are the only way to go as long as it's over 20mW and has to be adjustable.

Also I like to keep the light push switch close to my left thumb and on the right side of the rail I keep my laser as far back as it can go on the rail so my index finger can just barrely push the switch from the shooting postion. On a side note. Keep laser's zero on 25 meters as the should only be used as a CQB deviece.
 
Tried using a 6P with a click-on tailcap in a VLTOR offset mount at 10 o'clock, which worked fine. On thinking this through a bit more, since it's a 3-gun application, the light would be hitting barricades all the time if I left it there. So, am currently using an X300 at 6 o'clock. I hold the rail pretty far forward, and I can hit the rocker switch quite easily with my index finger.

Tried mounting it at 12 o'clock and moving my front sight behind it, but saw too much of the light housing in my Aimpoints field of view.

Swapping between primary and secondary would be handy, but my G17 uses a slightly different rail, so I have another X300 with the universal adapter on it.
 
I've ordered a Fenix TK10 OD and will buy a Viking Tactics Light Mount once CQB services gets back.

I'm not sure the light mounts but its it doesn't I'll just order a surefire G2.

Where did you read that? Can you point to a thread specifically? Because I can find you many, many sources that would sing the X300's praises mounted to rifles, as well as the M3X, generally in the 12 o'clock position.

I can't dig up the thread right now, but it was mentioned, for one, by Pat Rogers that he didn't like to see pistol lights run on carbines in his classes. I didn't see reasons given.
 
Not a black rifle, but on my FABARM SAT-8 there is rail at the 6 o'clock position on the forend. I'm thinking about trying a pistol light on it there. With my long arms and reach I don't want too big a light taking up a bunch of room on my forend.
 
How do the pistol lights hold up to the recoild, muzzle blast on an AR? Any issues? Ive heard that the Fenix lights when used as weapon lights crapped out. I have a TLR that I thought I might use.

I used an X200 overseas for eight months and it held up fine. The only issue I had was I lost the little cotter pin and the battery cover/switch assembly popped open once or twice. I also replaced the crap plastic mounting assembly with a LaRue one. The plastic rails do get worn and loose if you take the light on and off too much.
