My First and ONLY Rifle -- Pictures Page 1/20/25 -- Range Review Page 28 --

TSE (The Shooting Edge -- Calgary) has "one" in stock:
Steyr SSG-08 .308 Win Black $5,799.00

Thanks,
- Koshy
Thanks, But I am looking for a stocking dealer, not the same rifle. I have a Styer that a friend wants to purchase and I will only consider selling it if I can replace it rather quickly with the same rifle but with a set trigger that is an option for it. I played the waiting game for the better part of 2 years to get my current rifle, I don't want to have to do the same again.

The heavy bolt lift is because of a) four lugs, b) a heavy firing pin spring. Like it has been stated above, make sure you grease the back of the locking lugs and the primary extraction point on the action/bolt handle. A lug recess cleaning tool also comes in very handy, Sinclair's sells them. w w w.sinclairintl.com/product/10475/ActionChamber-Cleaning-Tools

Thanks for the confirmation.

I'll take a picture of my bolt some time :)

May I ask what Steyr you have (pm if you want to keep private)? Is it a Prohunter?

Thanks,
- Koshy

I bought a prohunter in .300 win mag, I had a look at the bolt and yes it has 4 lugs. Thanks for the heads up guys.

So you are looking for another Pro Hunter NEW in .300 win mag?

Sorry mixed you and Brian up :D

Thanks,

I have been taught how to clean my rifle, but I will ask at ORA Winter Training to, just to get a couple different opinions :p As for the lugs, some say use a high quality grease, others say that just gun oil is fine to lubricate it... I think I will opt for the grease after that little scary story of yours :)

Here is the grease that was suggested to me: http://www.cabelas.com/p-0059607221055a.shtml
I bought one of those in 1993, it ran out on me around 1999 or so... can you imagine?!!!? ;-) It's pretty good, it is thick enough that it doesn't run.

When that tube ran out, I refilled it with some moly grease from Canadian Tire, which works just as well.

You can also get 1cc or 2cc syringe, and fill it with moly grease (or any other high pressure grease for that matter).

BTW getting a "bolt lug recess cleaning tool" is worthwhile. If you haven't already seen one, ask one of the ORA guys to show you one.

Wowww, awesome value, lasting 6 years :)

I will look into bolt lug recess cleaning tools, I would for sure want to see one in person first :p Website picture just leaves me asking more questions :p

The list of things I "need" never seems to get any shorter for shooting :)

Thanks,

Neither does the thread for someone's first rifle!

That's because I am learning lots and sharing lots :) And this is the first rifle I have owned, not shot :)

Also you need to change your avatar to the P4 Fine reticle, since you don't have the one in your avatar anymore ;)

Also those buggers at S&B send your scope back yet? Need me to kick their ass for you?

Thanks,
- Koshy

Heh, you beat me to the chase - that's exactly what I was gonna do once I got the scope back. I think the bottleneck is with Wolverine, because the turnaround time quoted to me by the S&B rep is three weeks believe it or not. I'll follow up with them mid march, when I can actually afford this upgrade LOL!

Seriously? Wow @ Wolverine >.<

Ah well I'm sure school is getting pretty busy right about now :p
Honestly though, if I had to wait as long as you to shoot I would be going insane right now :)

I've had a hard enough time not shooting for like 3 weeks =/

I have become a gun nut through and through :p

Thanks,

They took my credit card info and are shipping it tomorrow - I'll probably get it next week... (Thank God).

Man, haven't been to the range since October! Get to finally finalise my loads (wait until you get into reloading!!!).

Just a reticule change so not much to see really; you want me to snap a pic of the image through the scope? In this thread here?

Nooo lol, I want you to take some snaps of your shooting once you get out to the range next week and post them on your thread :)

Thanks,
- Koshy

The Internets: creating confusion, one post at a time.

BTW, cool story: the guy I spoke to @ Wolverine actually designed the P4L fine reticule - small world!
