Colt Diamondback in .22LR - What might it be worth?

So are you thinking about selling it, jody_v? ;)

No not really but a while ago there was a WTT post where a guy wanted to trade a S&W Model 27, 5" barrel for a .22LR revolver. He wasn't interested in selling, only trading. He thought the value of his Model 27 was around $500 to $600. I'd love to own a Model 27, with a 5" barrel but didn't want to part with the Diamondback. But it did get me wondering what it might be worth.:D

A non-prohib Diamondback is going to be much more than $500 to $600. They are a really nice gun. I have a pair, 38 Spl and 22, both with 4" barrels.

I have the same model as pictured (as well as a 4" rimfire center fire pair, as above). I would expect to see close to 1k for the restricted version. You just don't see that many of these in Canada. I missed out on a snubbie (2.5") version a few years back, still looking for one or two to complete the set, sadly. - dan

FWIW, yours is a beautiful specimen. I, personally, think 500-600 is undervaluing the gun seeing that I was offered 550 for mine by a gun dealer. IIRC, I sold mine on the EE for $750 or $800 shipped. Bear in mind that I've seen one that was in mint condition with original box and paperwork at a US gun store. They were asking $2000 USD. When I asked the guy at the counter if it wasn't overpriced he said that Diamondbacks go from $500 USD for a 'well used' shooter and up....mind you this was before the 'recession' and, ultimately, it is only worth what someone is willing to pay....if it were mine I'd price it at a minimum of $850. These revolvers are beautifully crafted and aren't being made anymore and enjoy a bit of a 'cult' status in the US. YMMV.........

A 2 1/2" .22LR chambered Diamondback!?! WOW!

I owned a diamond back just like yours, very very well made gun. It was my first pistol and took 6 months before i could take it home, my first range session was a diapointment ,one maybe 2 shots on the target out of 10. I then gave it to the fellow who was training me to shoot and he too only put about 3 shots on the target. In the end we found out that the gun was tumbling all the bullets as soon as they left the muzzle! I contacted colt and asked to talk to someone about this, and i got the runaround!! So i tryed contacting them one last time and a colt gunsmith advised me that they stopped production of diamond backs as this anomoly poped up every now and then and they couldn't figure out what was the problem. He said colt wouldn't warranty it, so i said i will pay to get it fixed, they said since i was in canada that it was not possible(what a sh*tty company)i then threw the gun in the back of the safe and forgot about it. But dam they are beautiful guns! A freind found out i had this and with all the problems bought it anyway, he could not get it to shoot straight either after bringing it to a couple smiths. Eventually he passed it on to another fellow, who i imagined was as disapointed as me, so the moral of the story is there is a real nice 6" diamond back in 22 rimfire here in canada that can't hit the broad side of the barn, wish i could find the old reg /cert/ser# as i would like to know if its still floating around here in canada. You should get about the same price as a python, i payed $500 for mine in 1996 ,so they have risen 100% alot better than my retirement savings fund!!dale in t-bay ,i also have a ral nice set of pachmeyers for one if anybody is interested, hardly used, hahahaha::)

I've shot this particular Colt and it's a really, really sweet wheel gun. It's very accurate and the trigger is awesome too.

One thing I didn't expect was it to be smaller than the Pythons but it's almost a 2/3 scale of the 357's

It's just about the prettiest revolver I've seen . . . did I just call a gun pretty

I bought a Diamondback off the EE about 2 years ago(see one of the above posts),and I havent seen one since!

They(along with Pythons),have become quite outrageously priced since then.Because you dont see many of them for sale in Canada,I follow the US sites, and a Diamondback shown in those photos of yours, would easily go for 1200-1400.Despite the recession there, they seem to be going for quite a premium, and they dont seem to be getting any cheaper.

I find it interesting one of the above posters with his comments about a friends Diamondback and its accuracy problems. The diamondback that I bought also had some accuracy issues, until I figured out that it was really ammo specific, more so than any other 22 that Ive owned, and the throat needed a really good clean, and since then,no problems at all.Its a really lovely gun to shoot.I do shoot my Model 17s far more however,as parts and people who know what they are doing working on Colt revolvers are pretty non-existent.I still think that the Diamondback has the Smith beat on looks though!
