Whoohoo, picked up a new 93R17 today, mounted with a Legend 5-15x40. Can't wait to get out to the country to put some rounds through it. Anyhow while I was @ Cabelas I noticed they had no hmr rounds in stock. When I asked about this they told me that Hornady didn't renew their export permit and we won't be seeing any more ammo soon.
Anyone hear anything about this???

Last time I checked; Hornady is not the only manufacturer of the 17HMR ammunition. I would guess that whoever told you that is mistaken. I could be wrong. I imagine there would be quite an uproar if it were true since many gun owners have purchased rifles in this caliber.

just my 0.02¢

Winchester makes it for sure.

Being one of the largest consumer oriented manufacturers, I too don't think Hornady would do something like that. They sell not only ammo but components and equipment that would be and is destined for Canada.
The sure can afford permit renewal.

Thats what I thought as well. Certainly didn't prevent me from buying the gun.

"...they told me that..." It's amazing the nonsense that comes out of an untrained, minimum wage, store clerk's pie hole. They're likely just out of stock. All .17 HMR ammo is listed as 'on back order' on Cabela Canada's site. Not just Hornady.
"...imagine there would be quite an uproar if it were true..." The manufacturers discontinue stuff all the time with zero consideration for their customers. The MBA marketing monkies don't care.
Shipping will hurt, but Shooter's Choice in Waterloo, Ont lists Remington and Winchester as being in stock. Cheap it ain't though. $20.95 per 50, I think, for Winchester. $24.95 per 50 for Remington. Expensive shooting that stuff.

why is both Remington and Winchester prices so high? Hornady pricing was about $5. lower a box that is most likely why there is none in stock. I would buy the cheaper stuff

HMR ammo

Don't know about where you people are, but here, I can buy Federal HMR ammo at my local canadian tire. Ya, its gone up in price since last year, I think it is 18.99/50 now, there is tons on the shelf.

One of the places I go has Winchester .17hmr for between $15 - 16.50 per 50 rounds.

That is nothing short of Highway robbery. FS

The Outdoorsman in Medicine Hat sells HORNADY 17hmr for 129.95 per brick so 12.95 per 50 last year it was 149. but they say the price of Hornady came down so are passing on the savings
