HK USC to UMP conversion

Can someone tell me how much the mag well in the upper needs to be "opened up" to accept the UMP double stack mags? I do not have a UMP.45 mag in hand to use as a template. The upper is going to the machine shop in the morning for the cooling slots and I was hoping to get him to do the mag well too.Apparently there is a "spec sheet" that shows the measurements for enlarging the mag well in the upper? Any help would be greatly appreciated.Thanks!

How do we get this thread into the "sticky" category like the SL8 conv thread?

Gather all the relevant info and pics and make an instructional post that people can comment on or ask questions about. Break it down into sections and give details and where to find parts and other information sources. You can add it to this thread once it's all together.

Mrsmitty asked to have this in the SL8 thread, but I wanted to keep it as on topic as possible and not have people mixing up conversions. If you decide to make the post I will put a link directly to that post in the SL8 thread. That way the threads stay seperate, but the info will be easy to find. For now I will just add a link to this general USC thread in the SL8 thread.

I have copies of the USC manual, the diagram/instructions for the slots and diagram for the mag well saved just in case.

Question, how do you read the manufacture date code on the upper? Mine is
mid Sept and AK....... what year is AK?

the date codes are substitutes for numbers. According to HKpro:

A-B-C-D-E-F-G-H-I-K
0-1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9

(notice, there is no "J". Proofed guns dont have J, but supposedly mags do, or the old date coded mags.)

So an AK dated gun would be '09 or 2009. Mine is an AF which would be '05 or 2005.
 
Thanks again Raptor! Interesting though.... I had heard that the USC was discontinued several years ago and that there would be no firearms dated past 07? Just goes to show all the misinformation out there in regards to HK products.

The MR223 that I just bought was produced in Dec 09.

Every year all the guns are being "discontinued" :p

Most of time, what that means, is there will be no more of that said gun made THAT YEAR. Every year on HKpro there is a "Mark23 being discontinued" thread, but every year they keep making them :p


The USC is a much less sought after item, so they may have only made a few smaller runs, hence the limited availability up here.
 
Heh,heh,heh.......makes sense. Im sure glad that I got this black USC! I also want to get the MK23.....but will look for a very good cond used as I am sure that I will not keep it very long.....although I want to collect a bunch of HK product. So far I have MR223,HKUSC/UMP,USP Tactical.45,USP.45.

The stripped USC upper went to the machine shop today for milling of the vent holes and to open up the mag well. Hope to get it back tomorrow.
 
Got the upper back from the machine shop today. They did an absolute fantastic job inletting the mag well and cutting the cooling slots! Pefect job in everyway. If anyone is looking for work to be at a machine shop in the Lower Mainland area of B.C. PM me for details.
 
Machine shop is Newconcept Ind. They are located at #10 11411
Blacksmith pl. This is Just off Steveston Hwy and #5 rd in Richmond. Google map it.......it`s easiest.

Contact person is Jeff. cell 604 970-0265. shop 604 274-6422. Try him in the morning well before 10:00am. Make sure that when you go,you have the Vent Hole location/specs sheets printed off as well as the dimensions for the inletting of the mag well from the this thread. This way there is no room for error.

Cost is just over $100 and Jeff likes Strongbow cider.....so...bring him down a 6 pack when you pick up your finsihed receiver....he`d like that.

Remember,these are machinists.....not gun smiths so don`t assume they know what you want.....bring them the spec sheets to go off of.

A page back you will find the diagram with dimensions for the upper mag well inletting as well....print the diagram off as well.
 
really? I thought that the USC/UMP would be larger than it actually is. It does depend on the person holding it though. I have seen pics of SWAT guys carrying these and the SMG looks very large and cumbersome but in actuality it is not that big. Just "little" SWAT guys is all......lol.

Don't be so quick to judge a firearm by it's looks. That's liberal thinking, and that is frowned upon.

To expand on that, although the markings on the lower receiver of the USC shown above may appear to indicate «safe», «semi» and «full», that does not necessarily mean that it is capable of all those functions. I would bet that it has the semi USC internals inside, and is not capable of full auto, and that the sear area is filled up, as indicated higher up in this thread.
