So this will be first attempt at producing a Range Report. Pics are taken with Palm Treo smart phone so not the best quality.

This gun has seen maybe 250 rds. So well past break-in. Gas Valve on #2.

After a few sighting in shots I ran five, 5-shot groups at 100m. Nothing to brag about. Using Czech surplus.

I removed the Millett/PEPR and installed the rear BUIS (not enough room the have installed while Millett in place). Ran two, 5-shot groups at 50m

Reinstalled the Millet, to check to see if unit returned to Zero. Not really what i was expecting. Close to zero, but not really.

After some adjusting, i was able to produce this 9-shot group @ 100m (possibly a 10-shot group, but only count 9 holes)

A couple of weeks ago, I installed my Falcon 4-15x44 and wanted to see what 200m & 300m looked like.

As you will see, I still need some more practice on the longer ranges.

As far as the gun itself. I really like. I think the gun will shoot better than me, so I intend to increase my skills this summer.

Malfunctions:

On the first trip to the range, I had several light primer strikes and some jammed rounds in the chamber. I spoke with XCRMonger and got some advice on what to look out for. In the end, I gave the unit a good take down & cleaning. This Czech ammo has a clear coating on it. Some of this coating builds up on the bolt face and collects around the ejector. Had to use a dental pick to scrape this gunk out.

On subsequent range trips (after the good cleaning)....the light strikes almost disapeared. The jammed rounds still happen every so often. Not sure why. To clear, I had to place the butt on the seat and use a lot of down force on the bolt handle to cycle the chamber.

On this last trip out, I only experienced 2 FTE's & 2 jammed empty chambers. Other than that, this gun ran smoothly.

I've placed an order with Mystic Precision for some 123gr projectiles. I plan on doing some load development this summer to see if i can't tighten up these groups.

Bought from Wolverine Jan this year. To date maybe 350 rds down range. I'm hopeing that some handloads with a lot of range time will tighten things up.

Thanks for the update.

I have the XCR 7.62 on my list and now this just confirms that I should get it.

EDIT: I really like your setup. I will have to price out all the add-ons but I will stay away from the bipod as you don't seem to like it.

GJ thank you for your time....

As soon as I confirm the existance of 5/20 or 5/30 round mags in 7.62x39 Im getting this beautiful rifle...

I have heard of guys running the LAR mags getting 7 rounds.

Thanks for the review, I was *that* close to ordering one in 7.62 too, but ended up getting tempted my a SVI, so maybe next year :D

FWIW

I can confirm 7 rounds of 7.62x39 will fit into a .223 LAR-15 10 round pistol mag.

How well it shoots is questionable because there is a lot more play... the 7.62 rounds cant inwards a bit compared to .223 Rem.
So the last 7.62 round tends to flip upwards....

Also there is a slight bulge in the mag as you can see on the right.

but the question is.... will the 7.62x39 10 round pistol mags that come with the XCR pistol hold and feed 15 rounds of .223?????

No. You are better off with an LAR mag. Not a good idea.

ok, I admit it's a wet dream.... but why not a good idea? If the round chambers wouldn't you be golden?

My understanding is XCRs take AR-15 mags including LAR-15 mags.
So why wouldn't an XCR 7.62x39 mag fit an AR?

And when we eventually get the XCR-M (pistol version)....

Heck I know stuffing 10 rounds of .223 into a 10 round LAR-15 mag can be iffy but
peeps have figured you can stuff more smaller rounds in to larger caliber mags and they feed reliably in certain platforms. Technically nothing illegal about it.

Anyways we'll wait and see as I'm selling my old race bike to finance one of these vaporware XCR-M's

I think the problem might be the follower on the ar-15 mag. When the top round of 7.62 is about to chamber, the follower doesn't have the round laying at the right angle...thus giving poor feeding results. I'll try today (after I swap my PEPR mount).

Your main problem is the 7.62x39 mags are pinned to five rounds not ten. You would have to unpin the mag making it illegal. In a legal 5 round 7.62x39 mag you aren't going to get anywhere near ten rounds of .223 in it.

The LAR-15 mag on the other hand does hold 8 X39 rounds in it and does feed properly for the most part.
The main thing is our Mag laws stink period. Not like we have ever heard of a criminal running around with pinned mags, ever. These stupid laws punish the innocent and protect the guilty. I geuss common sense ain't to common anymore.
Now back to the topic at hand. I have found that if you use Privi factory ammo the best group you can get is a little over 2 & a half inches with this rifle shooting 5 shot groups @ 100 meters. Anyone work up a good load yet for this or get better results?

So If i buy .223 LAR 15 mags, they will fit and feed in an XCR? 7.62x39 (just to confirm) so 5/30 AR platform magazines should also fit and feed in the 7.62x39 XCR?
