recommendations for 40 cal

I thought I started a new thread on this issue but can't find it. Here it goes!

I'm interested in getting a new 40 cal. toy .. Any recommendations Beretta 96 m vs 96 d , glock ? I'm even considering a NZ75 40 cal

I'm not looking to break the bank .
 
Are you looking for a steel framed or 1911 or anything?
What sort of shooting do you do? CZ75 in .40, XDM, Bull M5, SIG, even Glock 22 or M&P are all good guns depending on what you are aiming for :D, and how comfy particular gun is in your hands. Pun was intended...
 
I have a Sig Pro 2022 in .40 my range buddy a CZ-75B in .40

Both are excellent shooters.

Out of the box the Sig trigger is a bit smoother but as time goes on they are about the same.

The Sig came with decent tritium night sights. The CZ's were a joke.... (as they were on my 75 in 9mm)

The CZ is more metal. The Sig more modern.

The CZ is slimmer, heavier but the recoil on both is very similar.

If I didn't have a 9mm CZ-75 that I can shoot better than a .40 CZ-75 then I would have bought the CZ in a .40
As it stands I shoot my SP2022 in .40 better than a CZ-75 in .40 Probably due to familiarity.

I don't have any particular sport in mind, just getting familiar and comfortable. Just shootin paper with no real goal. Just having some serious fun. The CZ 75 was a very comfortable gun , I'd like to get something as comfortable again but since I sold my CZ I'd like to try somehting different
 
.40 S&W.... what workin' for me....

For .40's I'm good with the following.....

Glock 22
BHP MkIII
S&W 4006
Colt Delta with .40 S&W barrel fitted by Gunnar @ Armco.

All depends what are you going to shoot with 40ty.
Are you going to reload or buy shelf ammo?

I am partial to anything what is steel and 1911 type is an leading platform for me, but will consider Glock if reloading.

spend time at the range watching other pistol shooters. Sometimes, a gun and shooter just don't work together well. You will probably see some folks who shoot tight groups. Talk to them and see if they will let you try their piece; you should get some trigger time before you buy to avoid disappointment.

I have a Colt 1911 in 40 which is just fabulous and an STI Edge- also excellent. I have owned M&P and XD with no great success in comparison.

I'd agree the S&W is worth a very hard look.

I have and carry a Browning HP in 40 S&W. But if it was gone tomorrow, I'd be buying a S&W. In fact, if there was a .22 conversion kit available for the Smith as there is (and I have) for the Browning, the Browning would be on the sale block.

I've tried most of the Glocks, Sigs, Taurus, flavours of 1911s, etc on our range "trade n' try" days. The Smith works very, very well for me and I have yet to see anyone turn their nose up at it.

However (ideally), the best handgun is the one that YOU shoot best and feels most comfortable when you try it, shooting what you plan on buying it for. A sad rule I learned 40 years ago is that the firearm you want is not necessarily the one you shoot best with...
 
The M&P line was developed around the .40, wasn't it? The tolerances and whatnot are designed for .40. GLOCKs were designed for 9mm then modified.

Plus the cartridge is called .40 Smith and Wesson, I think they've earned your dollar for their caliber :D
