Heys Guys, first time posting here, just past my gun course and am waiting for my licence and everything and im just wondering if anyone has had any expiernce with either of these weapons and what they thought about them?

Not sure which one to get I like the M14, but have heard mixed things for the Norinco ones, and I know the JW 103 shoots 7.62 x 39 which I can get a case of 1200 rounds for 200$.

So I was just wondering if anyone can provide some insight on these two weapons for me, dont want to end up buying one because its cheap and ammo is cheap and not enjoy it and end up back at the gun store trading it in.

I don't have any experience with the JW 103, but I have had very good luck with my M-14S. Have you given any thought of eventually buying both? That's the beauty of the prices of Norincos - they are affordable enough that you can acquire quite a few of them and not break the bank.

Not the correct section for this, but if you are looking for a gun in that price range and like the cheap 7.62x39, an SKS is a very good choice.

Sorry if they arent wasnt sure where to place it, Im new to guns so Im still learning almost everything, and yes eventually I would like to own both I had my brother get me a SKS while I wait on my licence to get back to me, thats why I was thinking JW 103 as it shoots 7.62 x 39mm same as the SKS.

But again at the same time I want to look at the M14s also just wanted to hear what everyone thought about the norinco ones.

two different jobs- as far as hunting is concerned, the 7.62x39 is a "soft" 30-30 good for deer, and that's about it- if you want to REALLY do it right, the m14/305/ whatever you want to call it- 308 winchester- right out of the gate- 150 grain travelling at 2800 or better- if you want to go moose , elk, or bear, move up to 165's- personally, i don't have a 7.62x39 for that reason- i deem it USELESS

Is price a factor? If it is, .308 is $1 to $1.50 a round, and 7.62x39mm is about 20c a round.

Do you want to have a semi-capable gun or is a bolt action what you're looking for?

Price isnt really a factor but at the same time I dont have loads of money to drop on ammo, I want a capable gun, something I can have some fun with and possibly hunt with at the same time.

Have always liked the M14, the SKS was bought for just good old lets go and fire off some rounds fun.

JW-103 is probably a good rifle for the money but it is a bolt action rifle, the M14 is a semi-automatic, a SKS would compare to the M14 and much cheaper to shoot?

and many years ago...... that kind of thinking led to my personal obsession and full time job living and breathing m14 type rifles.
i had my fun with the great many sks's and crates and crates and crates of ammo i've toyed with back in the 90's. The m14 type is a capable, all around good rifle to have. Be warned, they are not all perfect out of the box.... but here you will find everything you need to know to understand, maintain, upgrade and enjoy your M14s should you choose to get one.
my limited experience with the JW103 is that i hear they are not all that accurate and unless you reload, 7.62x39 hunting ammo is practically non existant.

vz58, same ballpark price as m14, shoots 762x39mm
Either one(sks/vz58) can and have been used for hunting.
And are great for plinking.

That said, I'm buying a norc m14 before a vz58

I dont mind the bolt action rifles, was actually going to have my brother hold a Lee-enfield for me but the one they had was really beat up for the price so I got the brand new SKS.

I wouldnt mind a weapon I could use for both hunting and just having fun but over time I can also get seaperate weapons for both.

Any suggestions on a weapon I could use for both?

Not true, you can easily find some. It's just $18-ish a box.

maybe easy in saskatoon but out west..... good luck
none of our local shops, canadian tire's or wallymarts have had north american manufacture 7.62x39 hunting ammo in several years
not even seeing the igman or privi anymore

Be careful with scope mounting on the JW 103. A CGN member brought one to the gun show in Calgary as he couldn't mount his scope properly. After fooling around with it for an hour with different rings and bases we found that the mounting holes for the bases were not straight and had to off set the rings considerably to get the scope centered. If this is the case with all of them then make sure you have windage adjustable rings. Phil.

You miss the most important problem. Marstar is out of JW103s and won't be getting more until december.

Get a 22 and practice. Then save up and buy what you want when it becomes available.

I have practiced not hunting but its not my first time shooting guns, I will probably get a 22 rifle for small game and possibly a JW 103 although I like the M14 more.

Wasnt going to get the JW103 from marstar was going to see if the gun store by me had one.

The Norinco JW-103 is a 7.62 x 39 bolt action rifle. The M305(an M14 it ain't) is a .308 Win, semi-auto.
The 7.62 x 39 is good for up to deer sized game, out to 100 yards or so. The .308 will kill any game you care to hunt.
Reloading for either makes the endless search for the best price for ammo, go away. You'll be shooting ammo that is tailored for your rifle too.

Thanks for the Info guys gonna try and find a place that has both in stock so I can check them out in person.

I dont think I will be hunting anything bigger then deer but you never know.
