Sightron

I concur.

To all who question why we as Canadians keep getting gouged at the retail level, be it sporting goods, boats, r.v's whatever, here's the reason above.

One distributer, also a retailer, for all of Canada. Absolute monopoly, zero competition, if you want one , you pay. Add to that the asshats @ homeland security fortify the monopoly, making it against the law for any Canadian to 'shop around'

Too bad sightron has decided to go this route. No way should a distributor also be a retailer. By granting one dealer an entire country for territory they are shooting themselveas in the foot.

Add this to the list of crappy days for Can. shooters. Mark

Valid points but well, we don't really know whats happenning. Thats what makes this thread interesting. We have to wait and see. If Sightron is not price competative people will buy other marks.

We have received very positive responses from top shooters and dealers who have been frustrated at not having an authorized Sightron dealer for some time, as the previous importer simply quit. As mentioned, prices to the consumer have to be competive and there has to be go-to entity for warranty for Canada.

More to follow.

Peter

So after you posted this I have to ask, ever deal with Peter???

If not I suggest you try it some time.. your statement may apply to a broad range of importers/distributors/dealers but since this is a thread about Peter and his business, Hirsch Precision, we will assume you are referring to him..

Now I have done business with Peter in the past and hopefully will continue to do so for many years into the future.

Peter not only offers some products that can't be found else where but does so at a price that is better than similar products on the market.. On items that are not exclusive to Peter I have found him to have the cheapest prices in the country.

Please don't paint all businesses with the same brush...

Hirsch Precision is an exceptional corparate citizen and Peter is a true gentleman. He supports cometitive shooting sports in Canada, he has donated prizes to MANY shoots, and he has become a reliable stocking dealer for many superlative shooting products. I hav dealt with him and cannot speak highly enough about his service

I know there are other retailers of Sightron and Lapua in Canada - and this board. I hope this development will be seen as a positive one.

I know from first hand experience that many US campanies are not at all interested in granting exclusive distribution rights in Canada. They will only do so to an established reliable company, so as to ensure that the "monopoly" is to their advantage, and consumers have the best access. Hirsch is worthy of that.

Fielding a number of pm's and emails on this topic, I can say that I am happy about this change.

I too look forward to a better supply chain, marketing and advertising support, accessible inventory, and enhanced customer services.

If the economies of scale kick in, the consumer should also benefit from better pricing and shorter delivery times. Couldn't have picked a better time to be buying US$ inventory.

The point of a dist being a dealer is a good one (look at the Wholesale Sport condition)and something I am sure Peter is very aware of. Retail is always a balancing act and
only Time will tell how this experiment works out.

Taking on such an endeavor is a huge undertaking and requires some serious internal fortitude and deep pockets.

Besides, it would be nice to not be the only one singing the praises of these scopes.

This should prove to be very interesting indeed...

Jerry

PS Obtunded, didn't you mean that " many US companies have no interest in doing business with Canada?" :)

I too have dealt with Peter on several occasion for reloading components, and this above statement pretty much sums it up.

I take offense to Peter being referred to as a "gentleman". He has offended many of my female companions over the years and I witnessed a drunken push up contest in a bar in Fredericton and he once tried to choke me out from the back seat of a Lincoln Navigator while I was attempting to parallel park.

But these issues aside he has done great things for our community here in Canada and God knows he has put up with almost as much paperwork as I have ;)
