Anyone out there thought about going M2 instead of HMR?
There is nothing I can do with a .17HM2 that I can't do with a .22LR for even cheaper.
Maybe you're getting your match ammunition from the wrong place , cause the SK and Lapua stuff I use costs around $5 or less per box and holds under an inch at 100 yards.
For the application, its adequate.
If I want more splat, I use segmented bullets.
Yeah, the HM2 might give you more splat and better accuracy in cheap guns, but don't buy cheap guns and dead is still dead even if the results aren't as spectacular.
You can split hairs all you want, but in practice, anything that I'd consider shooting with the HM2 is going to be just as dead using the .22.
I can get Lapua Super Club from this place for $4.50 per box, and pick it up:
Around here .17HM2 goes for something like 10$ a box IF you can find it
If I had to choose between .17HM2 and HMR I'd take the HMR because for ammo is more available and about the same price.
3) If bought a Cooper rifle, I certainly wouldn't be counting my pennies on ammo cost... that's humorous at best. It's like buying a Ferrari and then preaching about the benefits of running it on Bronze grade.
Around here there are a few stores who stock either federal or Hornady for 13$ a box if you buy in bulk.
