Smith and Wesson M&P 15/22

M&P 15/22 is Restricted, meanwhile this Ruger 10/22 underneath a SAW M249 dress-up conversion kit is Non-Restricted. They need to UN-restrict the M&P and stop basing things on looks and scary blackness?!?!?!

The M&P 15/22 isn't restricted because it has yet to be classified.

Only firearms can be classified restricted - not parts or pieces (except serialized receivers).

It gets a restricted classification because the wording of the law that makes the AR restricted says 'or any rimfire variant' or words to that effect. (Pretty sure it's been posted in this thread a couple times)

Because the makers (Umarex, Walther?) made it look like an AR on the outside.....

Stinks!

So with it being restricted, does that mean the mag must be pinned to 10 rounds?

its not limited to 10, it comes with 25 round mags, the classification only limits where you can take it.

It might, but the lady at the firearms center said that it's listed as having a 10 shot mag. I was just under the impression that being restricted meant mag limit of 10, rim fire or not.

Does anyone have a link or something to clear all this up??

Why dont you just call your local dealer who stocks them and ask how many rounds the mage that comes with the gun holds? Same as the 30 rounders you can get for the 10/22's or Sr22, or 597 VTR! Nothing new here!

Some states have magazine capacity limits, California for instance.

Nope. Nothing new here.... except.... the 10/22's aren't restricted, except for the charger, which is only permitted to have 10 rounds. The 597's aren't restricted, so no limits on the magazine capacity.

Like I asked, does anyone have a link, or know where to find out EXACTLY??
