Curiosity - polarized opinions on Glocks?

I own a 34 and love it. Also own a couple of 1911's & love them too, wheel guns as well.
If the Glock 17 fits good & shoots well for you, show the nay sayer's with your improved scores. There is absolutely nothing wrong with a Glock & intended design. Some guys don't like the frame. Other guy's don't like the trigger. Some don't like the factory barrel, on & on it goes. It's a dirt simple design, that's ugly but works!

I couldn't agree more. The best advice you will get on this site when it comes to buying any handgun is go to the range and try out different guns. The one that is most comfortable/you like the best/ shoots the best is the gun for you.

The majority of north american police forces use them for a reason. When they REALLY need their gun to work...it does. Would you find that useful for IDPA? :)

I use only factory ammo right now, but I have considered getting into reloading. I don't know if I ever will though, due to the possible KABOOM factor due to user error and the partially unsupported brass issue. I feed my baby Winchester whitebox, American Eagle (Wolverine had a great price on bulk .40) and Federal Hydra-Shock. She eats it all without any issue, ever.

glocks seem to get as much love as desert eagles.

personally, i'd have no problems owning both.

I love my glock. But i think you would have a hard time finding desert eagle fans on this site. Usually people who have never seen/fired one love them because its what they use playing Call of duty lol.

Its a ridiculous, impractical firearm. Only looks good in movies.

If he can shoot a Glock well, anyone can:

Um..is that a glock? Is it just me or is there a hammer on the back of the slide. Last time I checked glocks were striker fired.

in canada, most firearms are "impractical" since they're essentially range toys. but it's not like a DE would be my ONLY pistol - it would actually be the "wheee!!! fun!" range toy of the bunch. kind of like how some people have S&W 460Vs and 500magnums. really, not terribly useful for anything other than fun.

you mean $2k plus $0.50 per shot (assuming 357mag) or thereabouts? ya, i guess most of the time, people think DE = .50AE and ignore the more reasonable calibers like 357mag and 44mag. pretty sure most people could find 357mag at an OK price, given that there's plenty of revolvers chambered for it anyways.

DE = .50AE the same way that Glock = 9mm in a whole bunch of gamers' eyes....

I see no hammer there. It must be an optical illusion.:)

My only complaint about the Glocks is the trigger. I own 2 and both are bone stock. I have been told they are better with a trigger job but have yet to meet someone with that done that I could put a few rounds through so i'm not spending a dime till then and I am satisfied that it helps.

BIG!

I had to sell a whack of handguns, so all I would have left was the G19 and a little Walther to keep my 12(6).:(

Sorry to hear about that... So much for making you feel better... I was going to make a smart azz comment but with my luck (& maybe yours) I'll keep my trap shut for fear of it being reality...

IMO, the Glock was in a league of its own as far as defensive/duty type pistols go at the time it was introduced, and for at least 10 years thereafter.

Today however its just another good choice, albeit one with a parts and knowledge base exceeded only by the 1911.

Listen everybody needs to own a glock at one time or another, so just go get yourself one, quit procrastinating. For 1) they are easy to care for with the least amount of parts,2) tons of optional upgrades,3) mags are relatively inexpensive,4) and lots of people love them,5) there easy to sell if you don't like it.
The way I see it is guns are like ###, you need to shoot a bunch of different guns before you find the one that fits the best for you, and even then sometimes you get sick of the same gun and divorce it, or possibly trade it in for a younger one, and others like to have multiples guns, because playing with the same gun sometimes gets a little boring. Some of like large calibre guns and some of us like compact guns but for me personally I like the low maintenace type of guns and that is why I choose glocks.

i like the cute petite and occasionally gold-plated vietnamese guns. lots of fun! not a fan of the big fat-ass american ones where size is king (or queen, ahem). nothing wrong with some synthetic parts either as long as you like 'em for what they actually are and don't have skewed expectations.

Thank you everyone!! I was curious and I knew that there would be lots of answers on here!! I really appreciate everyone taking the time to respond. Thanks!!! :)

Believe me - not procrastinating! Just waiting on paperwork.... *smiling*

Check out "Hickok .45"!

I don't own a glock yet, but I will! I'm still trying to decide if it will
be a generation 3 or 4......:)

In this video put aside his bias for the Glock. Just observe the shooting he does. Bone stock Glock pistols with stock plastic sights. What I took away from this video is it doesn't matter the brand of pistol. Practice and skill let a good "shooter" do well with any gun. Hickok45 would hit steel all day long no matter what was in his hand as long as the sights were sighted in.

"The shooter makes the gun." Write that down.

It's your pic so I'll take your word for it. I swear it's got a hammer though. Probably just an illusion. Looks like he's having fun.

That's a nice, polite way of calling bulls**t. Does this picture convince you? My gun, my picture, my son.

He is having fun. He's also busting his ass at a two-day pistol class.
