i just bought remington 700 police in 308 with a leupold mark 4 L/RT i had it bedded and comp.... put on it as well what kinda accuracy/ range can i expect from this setup with some practice.

Factory guns are factory guns. Some shoot great, some do not. Expect 1-1.5 MOA and anything better will be a bonus. There is no difference between the manufacturing process for the bores in a 700P and the 700 SPS barrels.

Somewere between .25 MOA and 5 MOA.

Not in my experience.
Some 1/4-1/2 inch groups at 100 yards, but this does not mean it is a 1/4 MOA rifle.

The best performance I have ever got is a little over 3/4 MOA.
1 MOA or slightly larger (at distance) is a realistic expectation.

I'm with the "about an inch" @ 100M group. I suspect that not many "out of the box" variety rifles shoot consistent groups under 3/4" on real paper. Interet groups tend to be somewhat tighter! If factory produced firearms costing under $1200.00 were shooting under 1/2 MOA...the market for "custom" builds would be very small.

well sorry for being vague i went shooting today and my groups were pretty tight at 200m i think i calced it around .6 MOA(with the help of someone dialingin my scope for me) but also i'm way better using irons this scope is gonna take some getting used

Mine shot almost exactly MOA with many loads right from the beginning. Things didn't improve until I changed the barrel. There's lighter and cheaper ways to shoot MOA.:(
Your luck is bound to be better, but unfortunately luck has a great deal to do with it.

I have be pretty lucky with my 700p and for this reason no match barrel before i have burn this factory barrel. Mine shoot this kind of group when i do my parts and im sure thats rifle out shoot me !

However, she dont like the factory bullets and i reccomended you to load if you dit not.
My OAL is 2.976 to be in the riffling with a 155gr Lapua, so this is long ...

But like Obtunded have say, we never know with a factory barrel.

Nice groups.

I had 4-5 700P in .308 and they all shoot .5MOA with reloads at 200 yrds.
Took some reloading development as any other rifle, even custom barrel.
Still shoot one I will never sell;)

Does anyone know the twist rate on a factory SPS .308 barrel? Also what bullet weight would you recommend for said barrel?

Sorry to derail this thread, but it may be relevant to the topic...

1:12

You can shoot virtually ANYTHING with a 1:12. It is not the weight of a bullet that determines its twist requirements, it is its LENGTH. Do some homework on the 155-156 grain Palma bullets. These have fantastic BC and weigh considerably less, meaning you get high velocity and exceptional long-range accuracy. 1:12 will even stabilize the 208-210 grain match bullets out there.

Ian, what's the maximum weight you'd shoot in a 1:13 twist? The jump in BC between the 155 and the 208 Amax is significant:
155 average G7: .212
208 average G7: .324

Nice groups, but 1/2 inch bug holes at 100yds do not equal a .5 MOA rifle at distance.
Not even close.

Try stretching out the range...You may indeed get lucky!
