Me and my buddy (RJD) were shooting our Swiss Arms Black Specials last weekend, and everything was going fine. Shooting at 200 yards, having fun.

Then I get a FTF, and I look into the ejection port and see a FTE, a casing stuck in BACKWARDS beside the fresh cartridge, holding the bolt open.

We both just looked at each other like "WHAT THE f**k". These rifles don't FTF or FTE or fail in any way really so it was a BIG surprise for us. Maybe just the ammo? Not sure.

Here's the pics:

Just a few things to think about.

Could be an isolated shell that had inadequate powder charge.

Could just be a freak ejection.

Do you clean inside the gas tube when you clean the rifle?

It happens once in a blue moon and it likely has nothing to do with the rifle.

Yeah, I was thinking it was probably the ammo or just a freak occurrence.

Was it an empty casing that was backwards?

Yes, empty casing backwards, out of the feed path but still in the ejection port backwards holding the bolt open(the Swiss Arms has a bit of space between the actual port and the chamber), and a new cartridge was being pushed into the chamber

Thanks for clearing out the 2010 malfunction for all SAN shooters, the rest of the year will be clear sailing for the rest. Not too sure I would worry, fte occur, just not fruequently, good luck on trying to reproduce the problem....making the diagnosis next to near impossible.

I had similar issues with my 17.9 inch classic green carbine. Many failures to eject. So I would clean it and then it would shoot fine for about 30 rounds and then it would crap out again. I eventually sent it to TSE for some warranty work and it's been fine since. I'm not sure what exactly they did to it, but it did come back from them with a new bolt and op rod, so you may wish to look there. I wish I could be more help.

Been awhile ago but I've seen this happen on a range in Switzerland, the round went "pop" instead of "bang" so I think it was an underloaded round or there was something wrong with it.

I had it happen once with my SAN... it wasn't the rifle's problem though. What happened was the casing flew out the rifle at 500mph and hit the wood post right beside where I was shooting the rifle and bounced back into the action.

We should start a "AR-15 malfunction" thread :nest:

not an AR15 malfunction threat only, but pretty much all the entries are from ar15 owners. :D

Don't let the myth die. They are perfect in every way. Well except for the ergonomics and weight and price and that stupid piston that needs to be cleaned yup SA are perfect. Must be why so many armies are going to them.:nest:

I think the suggestion is reliabe, not perfect.

Ergonomics= eye of beholder
Weight = debatable, the Carbine weighs the same as an HK 416
price = higher than most, but have you looked at the prices of the HK product?
Piston needs cleaning = don't they all?

Many armies have gone to them, particularly for Special Forces use.
