I have always liked the classy old school look of a SXS shotgun. I am curious, what are some of the best reasonably priced SXS shotys offered on the market today?

TradeEx seems to have a huge number of (used) SXS ranging from $125 and up, with and without hammers. I'd start your search there.

Suhl, Liege, Husqvarna and Baikal all have good reputations and would be worth checking out. For new SXS, some of the manufacturers (like Baikal) produce new SXS shotguns I believe. Others can chime in with their suggestions.

The Stoeger line are not too bad either. Made in Brazil I believe. I have a Boito 20 ga coach gun that I have had for a while now and used alot. Still works like a champ. I am actually stripping down the stock as we speak to clean up some scratches etc. Might sell it but not sure what to ask yet.
Sort of a handy truck gun. Decisions, decisions.

Beretta, Franchi & Caesar Guerini also makes good SxS.

I too love classic SxS. An old one of mine.

If you still call them "shotys" you are not ready for a SxS Shotgun.

I have an old Baikal from when International Firearms used to sell them for $99.00.
The wood is butt ugly blond birch but the gun itself is nice and very well built.

;)Good one:). While I have and generally shoot better with two OU's, my preference for hunting is still with a SxS. I have an old very light English 12ga straight stock made by J.S. Boreham I use for upland birds.

And for waterfowl, an AYA 10ga Mag 3 1/2"

Cut some slack to a new shooter who shows an interest in classic guns. Better he come here to learn about good guns than go to another forum where they think the best sxs is the POS Norinco Outlaw. :puke:

Ah yes their beloved outlaw. The "shotty" that couldn't hit the ground if you dropped it.

I dunnoo, my father had a friend from a "well to do" English family.
This guy was a lawyer, and travelled the wolrd shootign birds of all sorts, with several high end Purdys and such.
he ALWAYS rffered to them as "shottys"!:p
Myself, I use the term from time to time, but in a humurous way.
"scattergun" as well!
But , unless the gun has the barrels PROPERLY aligned side by each, then it's
"just another gun"!! LOL!!

VERY nice. I love the classic look of older SxS shotguns. However I prefer the earlier exposed hammer models. None of the modern shotguns can replicate the svelt looks of these older guns.

I just bought myself a Tanton SxS with exposed hammers and Damascus barrels that is in very similar shape to your Greener. This was made in 1873 or thereabouts and is in amazing condition.

Do you reload blackpowder shotshells for yours? I wouldn't dream of shooting modern smokeless ammo in a Damascus shotgun.

I had to go take some pics of mine to share. :)

Thanks on the replay guys!
Definitely some beautiful shotguns out there, and grate ideas. They really look like a piece of art. What do you guys think of the baikal brand? Lately I hear about them more, and more. I know they were imported from Russia into Canada under Remington.

No it just means you spend way too much time on the internet, and if you dont have anything good to say, dont say anything at all.:kickInTheNuts:

Among the very least expensive sxs the Baikal would be my choice over the Stoeger. The Baikal and the ones imported by Remington aren't the fanciest of guns and quite heavy but they are definitely serviceable guns.
