Has anyone tried the insect defend patch to ward off mosquitoes. The mosquitoes have been brutal the past couple of days but I'm not fond of the fowl smelling repellants normally used. You put the patch on two hours before going out and they say your protected for up to 36 hours. Does this stuff really work.

I have sen the commercials for the patch, they seem pretty confident in the product, there has to be some merit behind it.
I will stick to my Theromocell too though, turn it on and there are simply no bugs around. We have 3 kids so it is easier to use one thing than to attempt to patch 5. A Thermocell on a picnic table keeps everyone there comfortable, and most of the surrounding area too.

May aswell just eat lots of garlic, keeps everything away, except for a Baba wondering if your hungry," you should eat your growing." FYI a Baba is a ukrainian grama, in case you didn't get it.

I tried the patch last Wednesday for Turkey.

The set up is this... I washed all my clothing in non scent wash from Bass Pro. I washed the night before with the hunters soap and in the morning with same so I had no scents on me. I did not use scent masking sprays.

I put the patch on in the morning as directed.

My buddy and I sat down in the bush after hearing a good solid gobble from a tom.

Bottom line! The mosquito's were trying to pick me up and carry me away. I was covered in bites.

So for me, it did not work. Although some guys are swearing by them.

The reviews are a lot better for the thermacell, me thinks that's the route to take. Thanks.

I was also intriged about this product, glad someone beat me to posting. Wondering if it worked or not. So far it doesn't sound like it, as far as MLRS in concerned anyway! I was planning on picking it up and trying it out on Wed/Thurs this week, as I am heading up to the hunt camp to do some work (if I Bass Pro carries it that is). Was planning on stopping there to see if they carried this product on my way up north. Does anybody know if they do? The shop on the 400 highway north of TO.?

I wonder if just taking Vitamin B capsules would give the same effect?

I think that was discussed in the podcast. IIRC, the amount of ingested Vitamin B needed to get the same effect as the transdermal patch was pretty high.

I'm heading to the 'range' tomorrow and it's surrounded by bush and a pond. I'll pick some up today and let you know how it goes.

For me this works. Spray your coveralls glove and top of hat with a good insect repellant, but more importantly once you sit down spray the entire grassy area within reach around where you are sitting well. No more mosquitoes!. PS I don't sit ditectly on the ground but on a small chair against a tree. I have shot 2 birds every year since 2000---but not this year and I got skunked! In my are of southern On.(Forest) there were far less birds this year.

I have tried them turkey hunting twice now along with my son and they worked great for us.
The mosquitoes and black flies were flying around me and the black flies were walking on the brim of my cap. But would not bite me.
I got one mosquito bite on my hand when it bit me thru my glove on my finger. But that was it. I dont think insect repelant would have stopped that as it was noe of the CT green wool gloves?

Well, the patch is on - now it's the waiting game.

I mistakenly asked my wife to 'slap one on me', since it's awkward for me to reach a hair-free body part. She took me literally and I now have a handprint over the patch:rolleyes:

10 hours till range time
