Tikka vs Browning

I'm looking for a new lightweight 300 wsm in stainless synthetic.

I have an A-bolt and like it, so I was looking at the Stainless Stalker, but I've also been considering a T-3 Lite.

They are both the same weight, and they feel the same to me, besides the detachable mag issue, I am looking for feedback.

Are you looking to change for the sake of change?
If it where me and I wanted another rifle , I wouldnt be looking far from the herd ...
Your current A bolt is looking for a safe mate, why not another from the herd in the 300wsm in ss ??
But, if your looking for something different then the ball is in your court.
I had my A bolt in 300 Win.mag years ago and sold it cause I wanst thinking straight , but I never could go and get another one to be what I gave up.Tried several brands (used) and ended up with the Vanguard line for its accuracy which wasn't much better than my A bolt at the time.

I have the stainless stalker in 300WSM...It has alot of "Felt Recoil" in my opinion, very snappy(due to only being 6.5lbs or so)

Ive owned countless rifles from Remington M700's, Savage, Sako 75 & 85, CZ and Tikkas. Tikka have always given me the best groupings of all. Ive never had a bolt shroud shatter, plastic mag break or stock flex. My deer rifle this fall is a Sako 85 finnlight and other then having a steel bolt shroud, steel mag and trigger guard it doesnt shoot any better then my Tikka 270 wsm, in fact the tikka shot better.

I would say if you are going stainless synthetic go with the tikka it will most likely be more accurate. But if you are going with anyting with wood go with the Browning they have mutch nicer grade of wood than on the tikka hunter.
 
tikka = plasticy as hell, x bolt is beautiful and in my experiances shoot exceptionally well. great recoil pad oppose to hockey puck tikka pad, and a solid synthetic stock, ive owned both and wouldnt even consider a tikka agian.

I realize that they are both quality upper end rifles, and both have a good reputation for accuracy. It's sort of like comparing a Caddy to a Lincoln - much of it comes down to personal taste.

I appreciate the comments about the stocks - Browning feels solid while Tikka feels plastic. I think that the Brownings are actually a fibreglass or similar product.

Obviously in a wsm, both will have recoil due to their low weight. However, the Stainless Stalker's seem to have a reputation for recoil possibly due to stock design. How about the Tikka's? Recoil doesn't bother me (I shoot 450's. 416's, and 458's) but I don't need to get hammered by the gun either.

Any other comparisons or beefs/bouquet's that can be offered?
 
I have an Abolt and it is very accurate.It is a 30-06 and had a snap to it so i put a Simm's recoil pad on it that helped alot.Reall y like the gun great balance for me and shoots everything good.
 
I have the Tikka lite stainless in 30-06, shoots great, takes all sorts of abuse.

I like the detachable mag in a rifle, the a-bolt has that mag and base plate combo doesn't it?

Puts me off as it is harder to get a mag in faster if 'truck hunting' on the way to a spot.

Other than that, Brownings are beautifully finished but personally for me, function over form.

I have owned several Tikkas over the years and they all shot very well for hunting guns, but the only Brownings I have owned were BLRs. If I was to buy a new factory built rifle right now, I would seriously consider the Browning X-Bolt and probably not even look at the Tikka. Just me though.
 
I had the occassion to work on a Stainless Stalker in 300 WSM some time back. Taking it to the range to check it's accuracy, I was surprised. I've never, in my life, had my teeth rattled like that before! The felt recoil was horrendous from the bench.
And I know I wasn't wearing panties that day, I had my big boy pants on.:eek:
 
I recently picked up a Tikka T3 Lite Battue in 300wsm. 20" barrel I believe and it weighs nothing... I really mean nothing. I used to pack a 16" 44mag lever gun and it's being replaced on mountain hikes by the tikka. The real kicker is that with a good recoil pad it's not bad to shoot at all, just a hard shove actually. Add in the great fiber optic irons and any scope with some QRW rings and you've got a hard hitting light hunting/backpacking rig.

I'd only replace mine if I could find the same thing is stainless.

I own an X-bolt composite stalker in 7WSM and a Tikka T3 Hunter in 6.5-06 [rechambered from 6.5x55]. Hard to pick which one is better. Both are very, VERY accurate. Seems the x-bolt has a thinner blueing job, and mars more easily. The Tikka has a bit more plastic, but after 3 years of regular hunting use it hasn't caused me an issue. Both have removeable magazines, and neither will top load. Both are light. To me both are really great guns [and yes, I own some rem700's as well]. Six of one, half-a-dozen of the other. Neither is a bad choice.
 
Got a Tikka T3 SS Varmint. It's heavier, due to the heavy SS barrel, but the action on it is smooth as silk, the adjustable trigger is beautiful, and it's accurate as hell. I'd have no problem recommending Tikka to anyone. I have no experience with the Browning, so I can't offer you a fair comparison.
