So I stopped by a few stores around town today and nobody carries this brand of scope. Most shops never even heard of it. Does anybody know anything about them? Own one / tried one?

I'm just looking to do some target shooting. Hope to reach out to 400-500 yards someday.

I read a review here: http://www.snipercentral.com/menace4.htm and they recommended it. Anybody else?

Thanks in advance. This hunt for a good $300-400ish scope is becoming exhausting.

I have one on my backup Precision rifle (Rem. LTR . 308).

For the money its a good scope. Wish they offered it with illumination though.

Its hard for me not to be critical of it sometimes because all my other scope are US Optics and Night Force.


beefs:
- magnification knob is so tight practically need a wrench
- parallax knob is a little tight as well, but if you remove knob and clean heavy grease off (re-lube with something better) its not too bad.
- don't like the plastic turret posts period.
- knobs are a little spongy
- eye relief sucks!! Very short. You have to get it set just right and than make sure your weld is dead on every time. Which is what you should be doing anyway but its very unforgiving.

Again, for the money I do like it, clear for a scope in that price range I guess, and I don't mind the reticle.

I have TWO of the Falcon Menace 4.5 x 18 x 56mm EMD (reticle) in MOA adjustments, but the knobs seem to think they are metric since they move about 1/3" per klik which is pretty close to tiriaq's Metric adjustments of 1 cm per klik.

$ 400 ish give or take is great value of the money! :D

I've got a 5.5-25 by 56 and even though I have not used it much so far, really quite like it. It seems to be a decent quality scope for a reasonable price. I figured that I would learn to shoot longish ranges with it then when funds allow move up to the more expensive ones. Go for it, and yes mine was from Frontier Firearms and they are excellent to deal with.....

Pros:
1) First plane reticle (The reticle gets bigger or smaller depending on the magnification). The advantage is being able to use the range estimation at any magnifciation rather than just the set one.

2) One piece tube. The 4.5-18x is a two piece tube
3) Reticle. The ML-16 and variations are almost the same as the one on my Nightforce scopes
4) Glass has 94% light transmission. Fairly good, although the Elite 4200 and competition are at 95%. Still clear and decent glass
5) You can get the adjustments and reticle in the same measurement rather than having to convert.

Cons:
1) Eye relief changes on magnification (many top end scopes do), and there isn't enough eye relief for heavy kicking rifles
2) Adjustments feel mushy

It's a great all around scope for smaller calibers. I use mine mostly for .22LR or .223. Good features, reliable, and decent glass for a fair price. The glass is Japanese, the parts are Chinese and they're assembled in the UK. Seems to be a good way of doing things to keep the costs down while providing a decent product.

Lots of guys use them for .308. If it's a bull barreled rifle you should be fine. That's about the maximum I would personally go though for this scope due to eye relief/scope bite.

Other factors too that will come into play are the weight of the rifle, the load you're shooting (recoil) and how the stock fits you. If the stock fits well, you're using it correctly and the rifle isn't too light then you won't have any problems. If the stock is too long for you, the rifle is light and you're shooting a load with more recoil, then it could be a problem.
 
I have a fixed 10X on my 7mm Weatherby. No problems so far, I've fired over 400 rounds. Been hit in the bridge of the nose a few times by the scope, mostly prone. Not hard enough to cut, just hard enough to water the eyes.
 
Allen Gun Works is a pretty bare bones site.

Last night I started looking at the bushnell elite 3200 tactical 10x40 for a couple reasons.

After handling many scopes yesterday I now know for sure that I want turrets that I can grip. Anything requiring a tool or a dime or whatever will drive me crazy.

10 x magnification is more than 9 (obviously) and I plan on shooting at longer distances someday. Plus, everytime I picked up a scope I would automatically put it to the highest magnification, so why would I want a scope that gives me the option of 3x magnification? I would probably never use that. Its very doubtful that I will ever go hunting with this thing.

Its a little cheaper than some of the other options. I know that cheaper is usually a bad thing when talking about scopes. But I think this scope could serve my purposes for at least my first year.

I can get it here in town and not go through the pain of ordering it online. I hate ordering things online.

One thing that did concern me is that the tube diameter on the 3200 is 25mm instead of the normal 30mm. Would this hinder me at all?

If you're going to go with an Elite then look at spending the extra on the 4200. The 3200 will do the job but it's average at everything.

Another thing to point out about the Falcon. If you upgrade later, the Falcon is still very good for other rifles. IE tactical .223, or even .22LR (it will parrallax down to 10 yards so you use it indoors as well).
 
I've got a few of them, the eye relief isn't bad, to me anyway. I run one on a 30-06 that I run some fairly hot loads through and no issues, I like the 4-14 a lot, I also like the 5.5- 25. I'm really liking the ffp coupled with the metric mil. Allen Gunworks sells them as well and Mike has been nothing short of excellent to deal with.

i just bought a 3200 5-15x40, its a good scope but nowhere as good as my falcon 4.5-18x56. the optics are much clearer on the falcon. its on my .223 so can't really comment on the eye relief being too close but it does have rubber rim on the eyepiece, at least you wont get cut. 30mm tube will give you quite a bit more elevation, 80 vs 50 moa. Falcon makes a 10x42mm too if you want fix mag.
 
They offer a great value. I have one on a 338-06 and another on a 308W. Both have standard hunting contours on the bbls.
Neither scope has ever given a bit of trouble. The adjustments are positive and easy to use. The reticules are sharp and focusing is easy.
The scopes are tough and don't make a fuss when it's -40C in a wind. They just work well under all conditions and are reliable.
If you are looking for a long range scope, anything over 600m, get a scope that is built for that. These scopes will cover most, if not all hunting demands at a very good price. As for recoil, a bud has one on a 338 Win Mag built on a 700 Rem, hundreds of rounds down a 10 pound rifle and nary a problem. My 338-06 and 308Win, have a couple thousand rounds through each of them with those scopes. I've dropped the rifles, when slipping on ice, right on the scope, they retained zero no problem.

I like them a lot, they compare favorably against any other scope out there, including several high end models. Just remember, they are a general purpose scope. If you are doing specific styles of shooting, buy a scope that is purpose built.
 
Allan gun works was really good for me to deal with. I bought two Falcon's from them this year with no hassles. Payment by EMT. Shipping was prompt. My scope seems to work well and tracking adjustments is right on. I am using it on a Rem XCR in 308.

And like everybody says, the lens covers are crap. The rear broke under recoil when it hit the bill of my ball cap. The front just kept fallling off. No worries though, most scopes don't come with flip up caps anyway so buying Uncle Mikes is something you would have to do anyway.

I am impressed enough with the optics. Seeing 30 cal holes in paper at 300 yards is pretty good I think....but I am way new to the long range game.

Regarding 25mm tubes, I think that should be fine but check adjustment range. You should get more with 30mm tubes. With a fixed 10x though, adjustment range might be fine.
 
Elite3200 10x40 has been awesome for me. I've taken my .243 out to 300 yards or so and blown up 2L pop bottles and ground hogs. Exposed target knobs are great and really hard to accidently bump it out of adjustment, they are firm but not too hard to budge. I'm happy with it that's for sure. My only complaint is that anything closer than 40 yards tends to get blurry, past that it's good.
