well took my rifle out today to sight it in and what do ya know, extractor blows, along with my hearing.
The purpose of this thread is to gain knowledge on what to do next? I know that people in the states just send it back to smith and wesson get it fixed and yay its done. But in Canada is it the same thing? Do i just send it to Smith and Wesson? Obviously ill need an ATT to take it to the shipping place? Any input on what I can now do is greatly appreciated.. In all honesty, I want to send it to Smith and Wesson because supposedly they will ship it for free and repair it for free, and i dont want to have to pay for something brand new that broke.

This was obviously an OOB judging by the pictures below (the bullet actually got stuck in the barrel as well) it was a good 3-4 mm's of open gap judging by the bulge in the casing too. man do my ears hurt.. definitely wearing muffs next time i shoot this thing.

when and where did you buy your sw mp 1522?
from what ive read, guys having this problem just send it to S&W for repair.

thats what i heard too, but my guy just emailed me back and said that he talked to S&W and they are sending me a new extractor so i guess i have to fix it myself? i just hope that when i get it and install it it doesnt do this again.

and i bought mine from prairie gun traders in avonlea saskatchewan about a week ago.

you're thinking ejector.. my ejector is fine, the extractor is a claw that is a part of the bolt. its a black piece that is on the open side of the bolt that physically pulls the casing back, and the ejector (what you're thinking of) flings the case out of the gun while the extractor pulls it back.. if you are wondering whether the ejector is in the right place.. break down your gun, and turn it upside down.. if you can see a hair of a gap between the ejector and the bolt, you're good to go. if not then bend it until you can see a hair of space.

Ya I head that problem all over the smith and wesson forum. I looked at the youtube videos and dont know what caused the blow but it appears the magazine is the culprit.
I watched quite a few videos is slightly different in the way the magazine is intended to be loaded but may be its just me but i used the methods and last 72 hrs fired off 1100 rnds of federal bulk and 4 FTF and 1 FTE which is my error in loading the magazine.

It could have been the loading which led the bullet to feed in such a way but then again there have been lots of issues with the initial product. I dont know about S&W sending you the parts to install - i feel it should be done by THEM and I am sure it is a serious known issue since they have been giving away 2 FREE MAGAZINES with all repairs as per forum posts of M&P 15-22 OWNERS.

Am I missing something or does that not look like an out of battery detonation that probably sent you extractor into next week??

Had on of these do the same thing next to me last week. We managed to find the spring right away and the extractor later on. But by that time we had misplaced the spring. :rolleyes:

its because of an out of battery rupture.. not the magazine.. the dents in the two rounds at the tops of the pics are because of the magazine loading.. im sure that the rupture is due to the design flaw in this rifle.. the fact that the firing pin can fall forward while the trigger is pressed before the bolt has closed fully shut.. for whatever reason that may be.

damn.. ya my spring was still there (i think my extractor was too, but i was so dazed and confused because my hearing was gone i didnt think anything of it, opened the bolt fell out, looked for it, forgot about spring) S&W is sending me a new extractor.. but my dealer is talking to them tomorrow because i want a fix like all the others with similar problems. what did you do about yours?
 
you cant send it down to the states to S&W without Exporting the rifle, then Re importing it when its coming back. Call the store you got it from and ask for the S&W Warranty place in Canada. i know there is one in Ontario. i just cant remember the name of it off the top of my head. i'm not sure about where you are, but for shipping you just box it up, and take it to the post office for mailing no need of an ATT to take a Box to the post office.

Wasn't mine. It was my friend's. I haven't talked to him since it happened about 2 weeks ago but I'm sure he has it fixed already. (He's got the connections)

im from regina sask, ya my dealer has been talking to the ontario place and they dont have parts but supposedly i have more parts coming now? not entirely sure on that, i know i have a new extractor coming for sure and have had it offered to have it put on for free.. so we will see. and are you sure i dont need an ATT to take it to the post office? because im quite confident that i would if i need to have it shipped. from what i learnt in firearms course is that if you want to take your restricted firearm out the door, in a nutsehll, you need authorization to do so.

ummm that would be illegal......

It's a very simple phone here in SK call to the CFC to get a TATT to ship the firearm, it's really not worth the hassle of NOT calling in IMHO, too many risks.

hey man, i sent you a pm about a week ago telling you i got this gun.. must have missed it? ya it seems as if it'll be a couple weeks before i get a new extractor and then my guy at prairie gun traders is going to install it for me, we will see how that goes and if it happens again, we will have to look at another issue i suppose. definitely wearing muffs next time i shoot this, im still having trouble hearing today, cant imagine if this were a centerfire with an oob... i'd have more than being deaf to worry about.
 
0.22's are still fairly loud, think I would wear the muffs regardless since you can go through hundreds of rounds in a session

true, especially handgun .22's i listen to loud music all the time 150+ db's (big car stereo addict) so listening to that gun shoot yesterday wasnt all that bad until my blowout.. thats changing now, muffs all the time.
