Haven't they fixed that issue yet? I know of one owner with the same spring issue, and it's a bugger waiting for the same part over and over.
Ah well, we just order them in bulk now.

This hit's the nail right on the head, very well said. This type of thinking is typical, it is not based on function it is based on looks, kind of like a car, you always have the few that do not like it based on looks.

I always wondered that about Sigs. That spring under the grips (Trigger Bar Return Spring) isn't the toughest and does take a bunch of wear and stresses.
Glock
Don't get me wrong, I love my 1911's and my BHP's and all the other semi-auto's I own.... BUT for a SHTF scenario my "go to" would be a Glock 22 .40 cal.
I've literally shot thousands of rounds through Glocks enough to know something that "works".
Yeah, they're butt ugly, have no romance, are 1/2 plastic, but dang it all, they "work".
I'd take a stock Glock 22 .40 cal any day of the week and know I wouldn't have to worry about it.

do you guys LOOK at guns, or shoot them? when i'm shooting a gun, the part that i look at is the front sight, rear sight, and target. i tend not to look that much at the grip panels when i shoot, or at the printed names on the slide, or the attention to detail when matching the parts together. even if the pistol is pink and my adversary in the infamous SHTF zombie gunfight is laughing his arse off at how ugly it is while he's trying to rape my wife - that buys me even more time to bust a cap in his ass!!!

A much better comparison is this: do you want a 2006 Civic, or a tuned 1968 Jaguar?
The 1968 Jaguar is very nice to look at and will probably get you laid.
The Civic will just get you to work and back every day. But it WILL get you to work and back every day.

Lots of guns work. Lots work just as well as Glocks do. If you like Glocks and shoot them well they make excellent defensive hadnguns. If you find them uncomfortable to shoot ie the grip, then you loook for something else that is just as reliable.
I find the business about dropping a handgun from a helicopter, freezing them in ice etc rather silly as it isn't what I do or will ever do with my handguns. Whether a Glock does it or not is just pure marketing hype based on the fact nobody in their right mind is going to rent a helicopter regularly so they too can drop their trusty Glock in to the mud from 500 feet and still make it go bang.
If you shoot IDPA then a Glock/M&P/CZ 75B/85C will serve you well as will a SIG, 1911 etc. For IPSC in Production the gun right now to have is the CZ Shadow - if you really believe it is the arrow not the archer. I don't, and find I shoot my Tanfoglio just as poorly as my Shadow while playing IDPA/IPSC. In fact I can be pretty good at being inept with just about any pistol you want to mention. In short I can make just about any gun look bad.

In the first 2 videos I wasn't paying too much attention but it seems that the recoil of the larger rounds helps with the slide cycling fully, where the G17 is 9mm and does not have as much recoil(energy to push the slide as hard)

Reliability doesn't just lie with the gun. It lies with the shooter too. I'd rather take my Delta Elite or my CZ because I know I can reliably put bullets on target, just because of better ergonomics.
An S&W Model 10 is as mechanically balls reliable as it gets too, but I still can't shoot them with enough accuracy for one to be my go-to gun voluntarily. One was my go-to gun for two years, but that was mandated by my former employers. Given the choice, I would have taken a CZ or 1911, with preference to the 1911.
My 1911 hasn't been cleaned since 2008, has had over 1000 rounds through it since it last was, and still ran like a top as of my last range trip. I'm sure that if I had enough 9mm ammo piled up, I could expect the same from the CZ.
Many people hates glock simply because of their popularity.
The fact remains, a glock is an affordable, reliable, easy to use, lightweight service pistol. It may not come with the trigger or sights of some more refined pistols, but that is not its purpose either.
I compete with my glock and love it, it performs well for what I need it to do.
I will never sell my G17, in fact, I'm still looking to get another glock, a G26

for some guys, that's all there is to it! but the reason for having a woman could vary from one guy to the next.
the primary reason for having a gun (generally speaking) is to shoot it. so, as long as it can supply what is desired and expected, all is good! the rest is just minutia.
similarly for a female companion - if she is an excellent companion, then it doesn't matter squat if she's short, a bit flabby, and kinda flat-chested if she makes a wonderful companion. but if all she is IS a great lay and nothing else, then...
if a painting makes you dizzy or wanna puke every time you see it, then even if it's growing in value by 20% a year it's a horrible item to have! conversely, a snazzy bank with a 0.05% interest rate on your savings isn't worth the s**t-stain on a used scrap of toilet paper.

As for the comment "do you guys LOOK at guns, or shoot them?" - well I shoot them but I also take pride in owning something that I feel looks good, I like photography as well and taking photos of handguns on nice backdrops is quite pleasing and relaxing all in itself.

i shoot a Nikon D80 and an older Sony DSC-R1. i don't need 47 terapixels at 25fps in a magnesium frame to get a great image, or photoshop either. i haven't touched photoshop since 1996 and back then, it was just poking around in the menus. and from those two, i get... no, i MAKE better images with the R1.
in the end, for me they are just tools. if they allow me to do what i need to do and stay out of my way while i do it, then that makes them a great tool.
oddly enough, i use a PC and Linux, and not a Mac. figure that one out...
those are shrunk by a factor of 6 in each direction - the originals are 10Mpix. the point of those images wasn't in the detail, but in the boldness, and it took 5-8 trial shots to get the right colours to come out. never touched HDR, and those weren't done with the D80 but with the R1 (i use the R1 for stills and the D80 for sports & portraits). the center one printed at 11x16 is on my office wall, and there's enough detail there. the trouble comes a bit with chromatic aberration and mosaicing.
