Hello,

I am new to reloading. I have started with 45 Colt and will probably stay here for a while. To decide on powder, load, etc., I have read some manuals, online and in print.

So far I have worked up the following using 250 grain RNFP's.
5.5 grain titegroup - cowboy load?
5.8 grain titegroup - an "in betweener"
6.0 grain titegroup - commercial ammo substitute?

So far my guns in 45 are;
Uberti Colt 7.5", Uberti Remington 5.5", Winchester 94 16"

Would anyone like to suggest something else for me to try? Maybe you have a favorite powder and load combo you like for whatever you do?

Welcome to reloading ginseng503, I'm sure your gonna love it. I use 9 grains of unique with a 250gr hornady hp/xtp in both my 92 16" and my 94 20". Works great for me. I've read in one manual that a "steady diet of these loads will tend to loosen things up inside some revolvers". Having said that, I use this very same load in my pietta 4 3/4" 1873 with no problems. Enjoy your new hobby and good shooting, Toni.

Thank you rosco peeco. I will think about getting some Unique. I can download from 9 grains. I have a Uberti 1866, (brass), on the way. I shouldn't use loads for a 92 in it.

I still like using Trail Boss in the big case, a fairly small charge fills the case up, so there is no chance of a double charge, and has been plenty accurate for me.

X4 on Trail Boss. Doubled charged a round at the loading bench once, and it was VERY obvious. 5.4 grains with a 250 grain RNFP is my favorite load so far.

Hodgdon Clays, 4.6grs with a 250gr RNFP....Yes, I know some people will worry about it`s fast burn rate, small amount in the case (alleged Ka-booms), and such...But it is the best load that I have found, and it`s a very clean powder....Yes, Trailboss, Unique works well, as does Universal clays....But I have been using this load for the better part of 18 years and I haven`t had a problem.....

x5 for trail boss.
Starting load with a 200 grain LRNFP home casted bullet
for cowboy.
nice accurate with moderate recoil.
Very clean burning.
Titegroup works very nice as well, but very dirty.
