Affordable precision (possible semi) Coyote gun? (cheap ammo caliber)

for the price of one basic T3 you could buy two Marlin XS7s, and have at least as good accuracy and less plastic parts. a .223 and a .308, for example.

decide how often you will be shooting varmints, and how often you will be shooting deer. sometimes its better to buy two different ideal rifles than it is to try and find one to fit two different roles.

I don't think the XS7 is available in .223. I do agree that its a far better idea to get two different rifles instead of one jack of all trades. I'd look at a medium barreled .223 carbine (remington and savage offer these) for targets/varmints and a deer rifle(.25-30 cal non magnum).

they have it in .243.
they are supposed to be coming out with a .223 version this year.

if their POS site were actually up i could check. the fact that a top 5 NA firearms manufacturer actually has a website thats not responding blows my mind. whoever is responsible should be tarred and feathered.

regardless you could substitute a Stevens .223 for it - they are on sale now at Frontier Firearms for $325. youd have money left over to buy an aftermarket trigger, and there are more stocks available.

i own a mini 14 target and with my handloads 69 matchking it shoots .5 moa

with match bullets, load development, and messing with the tuner.
..and is that a 3-shot group? does it shoot that consistently?

what kind of 5-shot group does it shoot with factory ammo?

As for the marlin site... I was just on it manbearpig... Why is it not working for you?
no idea - i ping 52ms to www.marlinfirearms.com, but the site times out when i try loading it.

THAT is the golden answer I would like to know!

Also, again no idea man...I am on the site again, no probs.

http://www.marlinfirearms.com/about/history.asp try just clicking the link maybe from another page on their site? Like, maybe the main page and your comp don't react well? Can't really help you much, I am not a computer guy.

Affordable ammo? .223
Precision? Bolt gun for the most part although many of the new AR type rifles are crazy accurate. Crazy expensive too.

If I were you I would have a hard look at the Weatherby vanguard series. Not necessarily the MOA though, for minute of coyote the standard rifle is guaranteed to shoot within 1.5 inches at 100 yards. You will never need better than that. That means the rifle is likely going to shoot better than you are capable of holding from any field position. In other words, don't get hung up on the precision. Lots of guys will tell you you need a 1/2 inch grouping rifle to hunt deer. To me this is BS. You simply need a rifle that fits you comfortably and has a decent 3-4 pound trigger that breaks consistently and clean. Be sure your scope setup is correct so you can shoulder the rifle instinctively and have the field of view without moving your head around to find the target.

for deer, no you are absolutely right... but it sure is nice to have a varmint gun that shoots sub-MOA consistently ;)

I got a stevens 200 in .223 off the EE, and picked up a cheap bushnell scope from cabelas.
Shooting hornady ammo, the rifle is more accurate then I am.

Seriously look at the stevens and savage packages, the marlin may be accurate but marlin co has been bought out by remington whose warranty sucks literally.
If something does go wrong with the marlin you might regret buying it. My 2 cent fwiw.

Going back to the 7.62x39. This would be my choice in the cz527 carbine. It is an excellent shooter and you can get fmj bullets from fereral or Remington as well as soft points in the remington. I won't shoot surplus through mine.
The bore is .310 and Remington And Hornady make .310 bullets for it. You can use .308 or sierra .311 bullets. It likes a fast powder like4198 and you can greatly exceed reloading manuals because their data is for the SKS type and limited to 42000psi I use Remington brass because it uses the small rifle primer alyhough I'm not sur how much difference it makes

my vote is the hk sl8. very accurate its .223 and non restricted and u can mod it as much as u want..... its what i use for coyote.

now i just need more practice calling them in

I had an 870 express 20g sent out and returned in less than 3 weeks. No hassles.

One of the few decent return times i guess, my 870 12 gauge was gone for 14 months and had the same problem when it returned.

On the other hand i had a stevens that had issues, bought it from the same store a quick phone call and the gun was exchanged for another one of the same model and a $20.00 credit given for the wasted ammo.:D
