What is your .308win.'s favorite snack?

Depends on your barrel. Mainly The twist rate.
Start your research there. I cant remember right now, but i know if you have the wrong twist rate, your barrel wont chuck heavier bullets down range. (As accurate)

Pretty much all northern ont. hunting. ie. moose/deer/black bear. I shot some 150's, but not for hunting. 165 nosler partitions seem to work well on the above. Would I gain an advantage by going to 180's or should I stick with what I know works? I'm looking for advice and what works for you. rifle, ammo, brand, loads, performance etc.

I have hunted with a 308 win off and on for 40yrs never have used factory ammo have always been a hand loader 150gr is my favorite with imr 4064 have shot many moose and Deer with this combo. 165gr would work fine but I would not use 180gr that is saved for something with more capacity .

A friend had a Savage Model 99 in .308 for moose.

In a swap for parts I loaded up for him some 180 grain Hornady SP Interlocks over 39.0 grains of IMR 3031 for deer/moose.
He was successful that season, and he had no complaints that this rifle/catridge was not powerful enough.

My favorite .308 load is a 165 grain Nosler Partition on top of 45.5 grains of Varget. This load shoots 3 shots into 5/8" at 100 yards...at about 2750 fps average.

Jeff.

180's will work fine, but 165's flatten the trajectory a bit and dont give up much in penetration if you choose a quality controlled expansion design. A 150gr TTSX or 165gr Accubond or Partition will do nicely for anything you'd point a 308 at, inside 350 yards.
