The Remington Model 8 patents have long expired, I'm sure.

It uses a safety lever much like the AK.

Chambered in either 5.56x45 or 7.62x39 (or 5.45x39 if it ever makes it to Canada) using detachable magazines...

It wouldn't be that hard to make a fairly convincing AK look-alike with an "aftermarket" stock, etc (make the commercial stock REALLY cheap, just so that people can later replace it, much like 922r compliance down south).

that's the same thing I thought of when I got my Model 8 in the mail, its to bad finding 32 rem ammo is a real pain. When I was doing my research on the gun when I realized it was coming to me, it was the pictures of the side select safety and later the recoil operated barrel assembly that really interested me. Once getting the gun and ammo I took a look under the hood at the action and found it to be one sturdy, well built chunk of steel. If someone either from Remington or even Browning, since it was a Browning design, took on the project it would be a very interesting product. The platform would have to be very modernized though, which is never a bad thing.

I think he meant a newly manufactured model that would be an entirely new gun instead of a fairly common model everyone already has if you want a modded sks get a tapco stock or something like that. I do like both the stocks that you guys came up with, especially the Cetme/FAL look you were going for.

Those aren't mine, unfortunately...

But yes, the Remington Model 8 idea was for a modernized/newly manufactured version.

Just Curious ...

This is by no means meant to be inflammatory.

I'm wondering what the obsession is with trying to make rifles that look like AK-47s?
There are fantastic rifles out there that match the AK-47 as far as reliability, simplicity and cool factor.
Case in point: The VZ-58.
Eastern block, hard hitting caliber, cheap to shoot, simple, reliable, durable and ###y.

People always want what they can not have.

I am also rounding up parts to do my own SKS -> AK-47 look-alike. I have some of my own ideas to make mine a little different than any of the others posted so far. Why am I doing it? Basically because I have the skills, tools and equipment to do it, and it looks like a fun and easy side project. I can't own a real AK. A SKS is a lot cheaper than a CZ-858. Mine's a modern civilian produced chinese SKS that nobody gives a #### about what I do to it. No history behind it, just a bottom of the barrel el cheapo SKS. Even if I was to somehow ruin the whole rifle, I paid a whopping 180 bucks for it new.

that's all you need, a workshop and some technical skills and you can come up with some pretty awesome stuff. Would or has anybody even attempted a synthetic stock either by CNC/milling or molding for an SKS to have a general AKM look, including picatiny rails. If not do you think that idea would fly
