Hello My name is Vince.

I just got my pal for restricted and non restricted pal. I want to buy a glock 17 but i here i have to be a member of a gun range to buy one. Is this true? The closest range to my house charges $675 for a 1 year membership ( Target Sports Canada) http://www.targetsportscenter.ca/. I really would like a glock but i dont want to get a gun range membership. Is there any way i can buy a restricted handgun without being a member of a gun club? Thank you in advance for all your help.

my local club membership is 60$ a year.... just thought i'd rub that in.

find the cheapest club in your province and join that, you never have to actually go to it if you don't want to.

You don't have to be a member of a club to buy a restricted firearm. you simply have to declare which club you intend on joining.

You won't be able to do anything with the gun until you join a club....but you will still be able to buy your first pistol.

You can get a short term ATT for invited shoots, competitions and events. This may not be the solution the OP is looking for.

Hmm well thats not always the case apparently.. I know of at least 2 collectors with LTATTs as well good for the entire province. Guess it depends alot on what you put on your ATT app (no shock there)

Oh and just say Silverdale as range.. no membership required :)

Really? Maybe the CFO in Ontario works differently, but I definitely had to get a membership to have the transfer approved here.

Most clubs offer an "Associate" Membership. That's what I purchased in Calgary at TSE. Cost me $50 instead of the $575 for the full membership.

I would bet that most clubs/ranges offer a reduced cost membership. It's worth looking into anyways.

I have been told by our CFO that Ontario is the only province that DOES NOT require proof of range membership in order to approve a restricted transfer for target use. I can back it up. I bought 2 restricteds a 8 months before joining a club.

Indeed... and the BS from any CFO about a range membership being required if you want to buy a gun is complete BS. Same as they do not want to issue multi-province ATTs.... and even try to claim they can't.

I totally agree. When I tried to transfer my first restricted, I told the AB CFO that I was not a member of a range, rather a member of a shooting club that uses multiple ranges in the province. I faxed her all my current memberships (IDPA and ATHL) as well as an invite to a local shoot to prove that I was indeed going to a range in Alberta.

The girl told me no problem and that the transfer would be done right away. Now, typically when I transferred non-restricteds, it only took about 30 minutes to complete. When 2 days passed with nothing I called back.

Luckily I got the same girl and she said that the transfer had been approved and that she had forgot to email me. 20 seconds later, I got the transfer! WOO HOO right?

Not so fast, the next day she calls me and says that she made a mistake and unless I joined an actual RANGE, she would have to retract the transfer! WTF????

Anyways, I didn't see much point in arguing, so I begrudgingly went down to TSE and bought an Assoc. membership. I took a picture of it with my blackberry and emailed it to her on the spot. The girl at TSE laughed I am sure.

Anyways, it just blows my mind how a FEDERALLY regulated system can be so different from PROVINCE to PROVINCE.

Burlington Rifle Revolver Club is about 50km west of you..membership is about $170 year...

You dont need to join a range all you need to to is joing a club. Silvercore works there and I think its only like $30 dollars. Then you can get an LATT and pay drop in fees at whichever range you want. Just goto their website silvercore.ca

So you can join a gun club out west, while living in Ontario, for $30? And then pay drop in fees? Interesting...

this has me thinking as well, if this is workable, then do this and pay my drop in fee at Silverdale and your good to go....

this is great for those that don't get out much to shoot, I have a buddy like this, has gone only once in a year, not a very avid shooter, but wanted to support the shooting community so he got is pal/rpal, but really does not want to join a club

this just might work out for him

im in the same boat. dont want to join a club as i only see myself getting out once or twice a year to shoot.
