Hey there, heres my before and after photos of my .45

I completely disasembled it after I got bored of the blued steel and stripped it off using vinegar, then buffed it using an electric motor I use as a buffing wheel. Buffing supplies purchased at Princess auto :)
I know alot of you are going to say it needs to be plated which was what I was going to do, but its not rusting, even tried a drop of water on it. Its almost like its stainless steel. I'll get around to nickel plating it eventually.

New pieces from Brownells:
Full length guide rod and plunger
Extended slide release
Softer mag release spring
New allen key grip screws
Cut two coils of the main spring
Re-bent the sear spring for softer trigger pull
New spring and follower to hold 8 rounds (drilled two extra holes in the mag)
Buffed the "Made in China" off :p
Grips are off Ebay

I expect the dark splotches in this image are camera related?

Looks very nice... but be forewarned the rust is not going to happen the instant a drop of water touches it. It'll take some time but you can always try to keep it oiled.

Yes I put a thin layer of oil over everything then wiped it

how did you get the chrome finish?

The chrome finish is just from buffing and polishing it

How long did you have to soak it in vinegar to get the blue off?

The vinegar was pretty fast, after a couple of seconds you can see it eating away the blue, you have to wipe the rust off and put it back in every once in awhile. Maybe 15-20 minutes total
 
You say you buffed the Made in China off the pistol. Is that all that was required? Buffing? Or did you have to sand down the frame? It turned out nicely, one of the nicest Norinco 1911s I have seen. How much do you think a pistol like that is worth now after the labor and money you put into it? $900? $1000?

I had to use the roughest buffing wheel with the roughest compound then after it was gone which took a bit I used lighter stuff. I have no idea how much it would be worth, I wouldnt mind starting another one though :)
 
Again, great work, another BTT on this one. My Norc is en route as of this writing. Along with a whole host of very nice stainless parts. Looking forward to its assembly and thanks for the inspiration.
