Yup, was out at the range today with my family.

Brought out the 858 and first round went bang then jam.........

Quickly do my IA and SH!T, casing stuck in the chamber.

The extractor actually tore off a piece of the rim when it tried to extract.

Nothing I have done so far has worked to remove it. I figure I'll be stopping at Valley Gunsmithing on next week when I head to Ottawa.

I'll get pics up in a bit.

So talk amungst yourselves while I do other things, till I get pics up :)
 
How to get a stuck casing out of a VZ

1 - Pour some gun/black powder down the barrel
2 - Screw on the blank device to the rifle
3 - Stick a fuse in the blank device
4 - Ignite
5 - ???
6 - Profite

DISCLAIMER: Don't actually do this...it's only meant as a joke, whether it works or not...

I have had the problem with other guns. Soak it in penetrating oil from the muzzle end for a couple of hours. Use a cleaning rod and then tap it out. You may have to really whack it, but it has worked for me.
 
that sounds awesome Alex. Never though of it though.

I had this happen eons ago with surplus x39. I used a short coated rod, and hammered it out. Thought I would probably break the rest of the head off, but then at least I could use a broken shell extractor.

On an instance of trying to get a stuck boresnake out, I tried a wodded dowel. Ended up breaking the dowel. Sucked getting the piece of dowel out, but when I did, it dislodged the boresnake.

Just 2 experiences. Whatever you do, check the chamber afterwards. It could be there is a burr in there making extraction rough.
 
Yeah penetrating oil and then use a rod to tap it out, take your time and be careful and it will come out.

I had to do this one time with my sks when I have a pmc cartridge with little to no charge and just the primer went off, it managed to push the bullet down the barrel to about 8 inches deep, let me tell you that sucker was lodged in there good.

But the method saskcop suggested worked for it, so it will work for you.
 
lots of these threads lately, as the original batch of 858's start to age the chambers start to get really dirty as a lot of people neglect them (I'm not suggesting the OP didn't clean his chamber but this is the usual reason for a stuck case).

Got to clean those chambers guys, if you clean the bore ,clean the chamber and make it a habit.

I would go with the hydraulic pressure method, seems to work well in other threads. You could also try freezing the friggen thing and then banging on it with the wooden dowel, may help?
 
The laquer that seems to be a common coating on those eastern European shells is probably the main culprit.

Always, ALWAYS scrub the chamber out, even with North American brass.
 
haha, I JUST had this happen the other day. Exact same thing, first round.

Tried cleaning rods and even pliers on the end of the casing. Just bent the cleaning rod and the pliers just buggered up the lip on the end.

Went to CT and bought a long peice of threaded 1/4" rod stuff. Can't remember the name of those, made for putting nuts on and cutting them down to size. Also bought a 1/4" dowel but that just busted as soon as i tried it.

The metal rod thing worked and didnt bend. Just made sure not to run it back and forth through the barrel.

A brass rod would be a better choice over ready rod, but use what you got I guess.

I was at the range today myself and shot over 500rds in my vz58 other then allmost burning my hands off because i have no gloves i had no issues.
when was the last tie myou cleaned that gun?Thats what ecveryones goig nto ask you.
But i have not cleaned my gun since jan and other then a bit of rust it was good to go.
I guess you just got unlucky.
Get a nice steel rod that will fit into the casing then hit it hard untill it coms out.

I think i was there with you as it happened . Me and my buddy were there shooting black rifles.
I gotta say this is not a cleaning issue in my opinion....it is happening way to often with too many rifles (858/ cz 2000) I cleaned my beyond any resonable expectation... cleaned polished cleaned and polished.
For the money ipaid im not happy.....
And yup there a lot of threads in this regard......
When the head of my casing ripped of it looked like a beaver bit it.....
Ill stick with my sks.
 
well i don't know, I didn't clean it after I worked it hard, then put it away for a couple weeks... so idk. Gonna look at getting it finished by Rauch-Tactical.
 
Step one - Buy Scotch
Step two - Bring Scotch over
Step three - We Remove Casing
Step four - We remove scotch
.. we need to try something new though.

The amount of times i would have to do this we would both be alcoholics!
But it would be for the greater good!
 
The one and only time this happened to me, was the third shot after the gun came back from coating. So maybe not a dirty chamber issue? I just used a brass cleaning rod and it popped right out.

Did you thoroughly clean the chamber before you sent it in?

Just because a chamber is shiny does not mean that it's "clean"
