Any thoughts on the Dominion Arms Grizzly Mag Fed Shotgun?
It is an 870 clone made in China, with a 5 round detachable magazine.
Does anyone have any experience with this shotgun? (quality, reliability)
Would this be a good purchase or a waste of money? (would be used for fun at the range)

You legally can not defend yourself with a gun in Canada, or anything really for that matter. You must die like a good, TRUE Canadian...and saying that you have a gun for self defence is a bad idea...espically on the internet.

It's a chinese piece of junk. Nice Wood though.

Thank you for sharing your opinions, however I am more interested in the quality/reliability of this shotgun.

Well its chinese...so lots of corners are cut and good luck find replacement parts and such. Have you looked into the Mossberg 500 or Remington 870? MUCH better guns, lots of after markets parts, parts if you need to replace anything

I already own a Remington 870, and getting a Mossberg 500 with the three barrel combo specially for hunting purposes (deer/turkey). Looking for something to beat up at the range preferably mag fed.

Perhaps this is a gun better discussed in the Black and Green Shotgun forum. It's a real stretch to categorize it as a hunting or sporting gun. The tactical forum is beneath this one.

Way beneath. ;)

Indeed. :)

As for the piece of junk pictured,

1. It's Chinese. It's cheap. 2 + 2 together equals... well, yea.

2. It's as near to useless as a shotgun can be. So try the other forum perhaps.

3. That's a very cantankerous setup, with things protruding every which way.

4. Stick with your Mossberg and Remington.

5. In the future shop for North American/European products. They're better, and they keep shooting sports alive with home grown manufacturers. Or at least manufacturers that share a culture similar to ours.

Wow, the Liberals really have brainwashed people.

You have a right to defend yourself and your family against life or death as we have been shown by a tough ass B.C. Jeweler.

OK... lets set a few things straight...

1. Self defence is still legal in Canada.

2. Built quality is not much worst (or better) than other value-price shotguns out there.

3. There are no reason why you couldn't use this shotgun for hunting... as a matter of fact, as few guys put 12" on theirs and are using them for small games.

4. Before flaming the "built in China"... look at the tag on most of you goods (From TV to running shoes to cell phone), chances are, they were built in China.

5. This shotgun is much less expensive than other "name brand" shotgun, because CanadaAmmo isn't spending millions of dollars in advertising and overhead.

Just my 2 cents,
Mike :D

I get sick of the analogy "Before flaming the "built in China"... look at the tag on most of you goods (From TV to running shoes to cell phone), chances are, they were built in China".
I don't really care where my cell phone or my shoes were made I do care where my firearms are made.

I was wondering when the "small games" take place are they the ones before the Olympic games?

I will be interested in the 8" version with mag, complete with the Knoxx recoil reducing stock. It will be a good gun to carry for bear defense as you get the short barrel without the ammo penalty. Also a good setup for jumping in and out of a helicopter or truck. Easy to load and unload.

The major downside of the design is you can not top up the gun through the ejection port, so you are dependent on what is in the mag.

As with any magazine fed gun, take care of your mags and they will work, abuse them and expect problems. If I recall correctly the trigger group is pure 870 and can be replaced. The gun is in production so parts are obtainable. Extra mags are obtainable also.

I've thought about getting one for my house. It's not uncommon to have a coyote or bear or cougar sniffing around the chicken coop. Having a mag fed shotgun would make it easy for me to pick up, load and walk out the door when something needs dealing with, then unload and return to storage when done

An assortment of magazines would make it easy to have some rubber slugs, lead slugs, buckshot and 4buck etc on hand, depending on what the situation was. I'd want a fixed stock with a shorter barrel, most likely.

I've got a Chinese 870 pump action clone and it works well, but it's tube fed. No experience with the magazine fed shotguns.

...and here I am getting sucked in. This gun, no matter the barrel length, would be an abysmal choice for hopping in and out of vehicles (especially helicopters, something I have a peculiar insight into). That godawful mag box hanging down 5" is more of a hinderance than 4" of barrel ever could be. A smooth, short barrelled pump with a full length mag is much more user friendly, guaranteed to be much more reliable, and you can get one without buying Chinese garbage.

As for buying Chinese "because everything is" as a another poster said, the fact is, everything isn't. I go to great lengths to buy Canadian produce, German kitchen knives and shoes, and Italian leather hiking boots. My truck is a Dodge Cummins (though I have two Toyota 4x4's in the barn, I will choose Japanese if I have to over Chinese), my furniture I make myself with Canadian wood, my watch is German. My guns are all American, Canadian, Czech, and German made... My cellphone and this computer, are designed in the USA and assembled in China, unfortunately. The sad truth is the other options no longer exist, because nobody would support them and buy them, because Chinese was cheaper. Cheaper, yes, but at a hell of a cost... It's just like voting, "one Chinese gun purchase won't make a difference..." Hell yes it does, and will.

We are literally selling Canada bit by bit everytime we buy a Chinese product. I hope people wake up but by the flocks running to Walmart, doesn't look like it. Sorry to derail the thread, but it didn't really belong here to begin with.

Finally, why isn't this thread in the "tacticool" shotgun forum?

Interesting point Gatehouse ...

I haven't shot mine a lot, but no significant problems to report. The magazine is a mixed blessing, adding weight and makes the gun slightly more awkward to use. However, having the ability to reload 5 rounds all at once, especially in a shorter barreled shotgun is very appealing.

My guns tend to be cased when I remove them from vehicles, so no issues there ...

As has been pointed out by some here, this particular sub forum may not be the best place to discuss this model, given its look and perceived role.

The first shipment of Grizleys wasn't perfect.
Mine had barrel concentricity problems. So did it's replacement.
I had to work the action a few hundred times before it got smooth.

My latest is a magfed.
I found the metal had improved 100 fold.
The action was silky smooth right out of the box.
The barrel is perfect. It is, overall a much improved gun.

I bought an 8" Dlask 870, and found there were subtle differences, but no where did I find it any better than my magfed.
Sold it as redundant.

I didn't realise that you were a closet Mall Ninja. Must be all that 375 Ruger recoil has gone to your head. :)
