Another range day with the Timberwolf

If I were you I'd take that load out to 300m and see what it does.Sometimes a tight 100m group doesn't translate into good long range performance.It does look promising though.Keep us up to date!
 
Yeah next week end I will try some groups at 300m although it will be FL resized brass and not fire formed like the last 5 shots at 100m. I will be backing off the powder as well as 91.5 of H-1000 was giving me pressure signs. I will report back after next weekend.

Just be careful as the 91.5 grains of H-1000 was giving me bolt lift stick, extruded primer firing pin crater and extractor marks. I think 89 or 89.5 will be the ticket with 300 gr MK's I know other guys are getting 92 grains with the bullet seated to the same depth and Federal MG 215 primers but that 92 grains is OC in the reload data. I wish my chrony was not on the fritz last outing.

My old ladys gonna be real choked if instead of buying her a ring I buy a timberwolf and buy it a ring. I would marry that rifle if it were legal.. your a lucky man.

300gr smks

Although I am on an improved version, I am using 98.5gr h1000, 215m primers..... I am getting 3000fps

I use us869 (110.5gr), from 0 up degrees, and us the h1000 for cold weather (-25 up)
Better ES, SD with the h1000, but us 869 still shines, last round to the range was under 3" at 600m with 869, the h1000 shoots just over a 1/2 inch at 300m.....
 
What exactly is the point to the spiral barrel fluting?

With a non-fluted bbl, it seems the rifle might be 500 bucks cheaper.
 
I had the pleasure of meeting Ross and Steve from PGWDTI at their shop. I have a completely new appreciation for what outstanding firearms they produce, and their commitment to making the finest rifles of their type.

Normally, I would never opt for a fluted barrel, but they do use Kreiger (they deal with Krieger directly, so I can assure you this is not a business plug) barrels which use cryogenically-treated bar stock and cut-rifling. this is as stress-free as you can get, so the fluting is about as likely to produce ill affects as a the chambering job is.

FYI, CGN "Inspector" won a PGW Coyote rifle (.308 cal) at the PGWDTI F-Class match in Winnipeg earlier this year. He has been cleaning house with it in long range F-Class competition ever since, using ammo loaded for a completely different gun. His scores with it even rival the F-Open shooters and their much greasier bullets!

I think this proves that these shoot as good as they look!

You have on helluva nice piece of kit there!!
 
ive shot one here in gagetown out to 800 meters. they are nice, well built but a little pricey for me to play with. but the army does allow me to shoot them and work on them every now and then
