I started this thread on the 24hr. Campfire ( because that is where the idea was spawned) but Supercub figured I should put it up here as well, I guess because it IS a Canadian thing done by Canuck gunsmith for a Canuck!
The original idea came about because I cannot shoot the bigger cartridges anymore, love the .303 Brit and single shot rifles, and had a 45/70 long range target rifle that I was not using.
Sooo, I contacted Bill leeper for the work - who was excited about the possibility of having some artistic license in a project and who is very familiar with the 303 cartridge, George Peterson at Treebone carving for the wood , and shipped the gun to Bill.
The barrel on this rifle is a .311 bore Shilen, and the chamber is cut with a match spec reamer that Bbill had for his match rifles.
The main features on this rifle centre around Bill's idea for the sight boss, which he milled integrally into the quarter rib, then transitioning the barrel from octagon to round.
The sights are NECG BTW, three leaf, one for 25 to 100, and one for 200 - the third is just for show at the moment!
The sling swivel I ledt to Bill, and it turned out perfectly .
Ffront sight is Brno, and I will be changing it to a patridge style becsause it is easier for my eyes to focus on.
The lever design was also Bill's, along the lines of the old Farquarsons, and much the same as a Hagn single shot or the Dacota .
trigger is a Kepplinger single set.
As far as the wood goes, I also told him to use his imagination on the grip cap, which also turned out "old school".
the cheek pice iss a nice shadow line of Treebone's design.
For end tip is of ebony.
Sooo, without further ado, here are s a few pics - the better ones are NOT mine _ I'm a terrible camera guy!
Ooh, and the rifle shoots factory ammo into1.5" groups at 100 and I can bust clay birds at 200 with it!
