Anyone out there have %100 reliability with thier 7.62 XCR and czech surplus? I've had a couple okay runs but after another frustrating afternoon out shooting i'm wondering if anyone else has had the same issues. I've got several c-products mags in different sizes and none really seems to be any better than the last. Still have a fail to feed, fail to eject, or jammed case every two or three rounds. The cases also generally only land about 1ft from where i'm standing (yes, i do have the gas setting at 4) Has any one tried opening up the gas holes in the plug a little more to improve feeding? Any reports with MFS ammo yet? Any insight from fellow owners would be great.

Was your XCR bought at a 7.62x39, or was it converted to 7.62x39 from .223?

Also, what is your gas port set to?

Finally, how many "total rounds" has it had through it regardless of the caliber?

Reduce your gas port setting to "2." The rifle is now broken in and doesn't require that much pressure to cycle the action. At "4" your cycle is too hard. That should solve the the fail to eject and jamming cases and stop sending the spent brass into the adjacent province.

As for fail to feed, make sure you:

1. Slap the mags in. Don't kill them, but just make sure they are in.
2. Don't ride the action, pull it back and let it slam home.
3. Make sure the cartridges are seated to the back of the mag. This can be easily solved by giving them a slap like you do an AR mag.
4. Finally, "new" XCR 7.62 mags need to be broken in a little too. New fresh out of the pouch new ones tend to misbehave until they loosen up. Good excuse to shoot off more ammo. :)

If you feel there is a tech issue, you'd talk to Wolfgang at Wolverine. He is their resident XCR tech. John is the owner.

It will not cycle at all at any setting less than 4, and the brass is only landing right next to me (not landing in the next province).

So i guessing that this isn't normal...

No at "4" it should be sending them about 10-15 feet.

At "2" they should be landing near your feet.

Have you ever taken the rifle 100% apart? (referring to the upper)

Too bad you weren't in The Peg I'd look at it with you.

Yup. Taken it %100 apart after cleaning a couple times....
It seems to me like it's a shortage of gas issue. I was wondering if it was the ammo or something with the rifle, looks like soimething with the rifle.

Me too basically 210 down the drain for something they say goes bang every time. Stovepipe, stovepipe, stovepipe. The laquer on a spotless chamber sticks and sucks. The ammo is sever thou out between rounds and the stuff is corrosive. Its garbage ammo. It won't even shoot out of my sks. I have 900 rounds waiting for someone with a vs58 to take it off my hands as it will fire through that but not a russsian yugo or chinese sks with any sort of reliablility. Only the aklones will it fire off. (If norks ar m4orgeries than vzs are aklones).

Yup, had the gas block apart... nothing looks out of the ordinary. I guess something could be out of spec though.
I've poked around on the XCR forum a bit already...
Seems like these rifles are hit or miss. Either they're great out of the box or nothing but problems.

Do you have issues with factory ammo (non-corrosive) if you do it is the rifle if you don't it is your crap ammo.

I remember a thread a while ago about a guy having issues with this kind of ammo in his XCR he somehow removed the lacquer finish from the rounds and everything worked perfectly after that.

I was going to try some different ammo this week.

I saw that post too.. i think he tumbled his ammo before use. But i also read somewhere else that that was dangerous to do.

I'm curious if anyone out there is getting really good reliability with surplus?

I'll be starting my second case of Czech surplus shortly, it cycles consistently on gas setting 3, I clean it with nothing but Ed's red, so far it hasn't rust it to bits like everyone says.

Thats what i was looking for....
So it is possible.
Are you using the regular c-products 10 round mags?
Early or 90's production surplus?

yes, I pickup 5 additional 10 round blocked to 5 C-product mags from Wolverine along with the conversion kit.

my first case of surplus is packed in heavy plastic and on stripper clips, in counts of 1200, so I think it is the newer 80's or 90's production.

There have been a few out of spec gas blocks popping up here and there, talk to Wolverine and have them check it over to make sure.

Didn't buy it from wolverine... unfortunately.
May take it up with the shop I got it from but may just try some newer ammo first.

I almost want to get a spare gas plug and open it up to a "5" setting and see if that helps...
