Yes, I take a scoped rifle for hunting in open areas or over-looking a gully. Also take a short rifle with a big peep sight for heavy bush or heavy snow/rain.

I have loaned a rifle to someone who broke a rifle during the hunt. A spare rifle left at home is no value.

If I'm just going out around here for the day - no. If I am traveling any significanr distance - yes. I have never needed the back up but if I drive 12 hours north and then fly in somewhere, yeah I want a spare.

always take 2 when going on a hunt at camp or out of province.had a spare shotgun come in handy on a PEI goose hunt when a fellow hunter realized he left trigger lock key at home on his key ring.just a question for the guys that take a TC endevor or encore and multipul barrels.what do you do if the main action that the barrels attach to screws up?all the barrels in the world are no good with nothing to stick them on.

But how do you have 6 guns in your hand at the same time? You can still shoot even if you only carry 1 rifle at a time... ;)

Since Sept 10/09 I've been hunting with my now 3 1/2 year old so we are always on the quad so it is easy to pack more than one gun.

On this trip I'll have the 45-70 & 300RUM in the cases on the front and the XCR-L sits across the handlebars Jaiden's 22 will be in the front storage area I just need to flip the lid up and grab it.

If it is to cold to run around with him on the quad I'll drop the camper and run around in the truck with him I'll just put the quad in the box so I don't have to worry about someone stealing it...

The way I see it is if there is a will there is a way...

Always take 2 and always have a .410 in the truck behind the seat. I have very different areas to hunt in while on the same hunt. .30-06 and an SKS, or peep sight .303.

I always take 2 guns, I take a spare gun which I call my dirty day gun and use it in rough weather. It comes apart easy for maintenace after using it in pouring rainy days and saves some of my other guns from needless wear and tear.

When I only go for a day, I bring one. When I go for a week, I bring 2 scoped rifles. This year it will be a 6.5x55 and a 7mm rem mag, I also bring an iron sighted one 32 win spl and a 12 gauge. I wish I had a combo gun for those 1 day hunt and the days scouting.

This year for moose i brought my BRNO ZG-47 (scoped) in 30-06 for longer shots in more open country. I also brought my Savage 99 in .300 savage (not scoped) for 20-100 yard shots. They're sitting at my uncles house right now waiting for me to go out hunting tomorrow. Still have yet to kill a moose with either one but here's hoping tomorrow's the day. :)

Oh, i usually bring 1-2 boxes (20-40) rounds of ammo for each. I can't afford to fire a lot of it off though. The .300 Savage rounds are pretty pricy these days. 180 grain round nose for the savage. 200 grain round nose or 180 silvertip for the BRNO.

I usually take the .300 win mag and a .303. The .300 is too big for my tree stand and the .303 works great for it. My .300 works when I have to reach out. Other than that I have a shottie for birds when they come around.

I am not likely to take more than one if I am out for the day local to home, but if I am going to be away overnight, I'll take a spare.

What a nice rig, that would be perfect for our Island.

My first serious hunt out several years ago I did the classic pump shotgun routine, with a two deer stepping mount in front of me while my shotgun was loaded with grouse shot, they didn't hang around long as tried to swap out the ammo.

To make matters worse, two steps to the left and a Ruffled grouse exploded from the brush only 3 feet from me...shotgun of course was now loaded with buck shot.

I swapped back to grouse loads and tried to track down the grouse, and a few yards down the trail a huge fricken buck stepped out onto the trail in front of me about 50 yards away. All this happened in the space of 15 min, LOL!

As to the topic...I now take just one rifle, but the combo rifle in your pic would be really nice for my needs.

Where it really comes into it's own, ;)on the island is on days like today with a little light rain and blowing pretty good. Walking along some of those old skid roads locally in Copper Canyon along the Chemainus River, hello Mr. Ruff and/or Mr. Blacktail.
