Well I went out today for the last day with my bow before the Rambo season starts tomorrow. Get to my stand, there is a card from a CO stuck in the ladder!!!!

We have a very large area for this particular CO to cover. My spot is a one way in one way out type of deal. You just don't stumble across it, and my bait and stand are even further hidden off the trail you walk in on.

I think someone has taken exception to me hunting legally on crown land.Possibly said i was poaching or something.

Just upsets me as I sit in my stand and can hear the guys in the nearest gravel pit blasting off 10 shots(only 5 legal here) in a row in a semi-auto likely SKS , then their big boomer, then the sks again then the boomer. Then they have to pay me a visit???

That ain't right , now I am gonna be watched all remainder of the season. Actually gonna take everything down this week as soon as I can get help with hauling it out.

Why take it down if you are shooting/hunting legally? Screw them, screw the CO, and everyone else. ITS YOUR TREE STAND, YOUR SEASON, so take NOTHING DOWN. Leave a sign of your own that says "Take a hike, just on a different trail next time"

This particular CO has a reputation for being "thorough" , which means, big brother , eye in the sky. He actually has come right to our house to check tags on animals in the garage. In town. Says, Oh i was just driving by and saw you had some luck!!! Ya right!! It isn't his fault probably just someone who don't like me, but whatever , Time to go to private land.

This is likely what I figure happened

Which in turn means grief for the remainder of the season. I bow hunt here, like it quiet, now , it ain't gonna be so.

A CO is actually a lot more adept at observation, tracking, intelligence gathering than you would like to admit. Granted a dog walking granola cruncher could have tipped him off.

Sounds like he is doing the job of a CO to me

I have no problem with them doing their job. BUT when I call their office to give a very legitimate and serious claim, don't tell me that there is nothing you can do.And the quote of the time was exactly " well I guess we can hope he hits a rock with his vehicle"

That is what has me a bit in an uproar. Don't pursue legitimate complaints, but come out to my site mid day, legal hunting time to check things out. Just glad I was a couples hour behind him, see what the trail cam says when I retrieve the card

If a C.O. left a card, I would call him and ask him if there was any particular reason for his visit, e.g. a complaint. Maybe he is "fishing" - I'd fish back. But I don't say that you should do that, it's just what I would do.

I would have called the Co before getting all upset. Maybe he wants your help observing for a nuisance or wounded animal. Either way at least you will know why he left a card.

Well I phoned him.

Didn't see my sign at my site , BUT someone still had to say something. Like others have said, maybe fishing.

Asked how things were out in that area, said they were pretty good, no troubles really.

Agreed. They are what's stands between us and green peace granola crunchers. Hunting is an effective means of game animal population control. This is one of the few reasons to own a gun legally in Canada. We want CO's to do their jobs and if that means looking in on me, seeing everything is cool and leaving to possibly call up the complainer to say" that hunter is legal and to disturb his hunting rights is illegal so walk your dog somewhere else." I'm cool with that.

Hmmm, well in my experiences they tend to stick to the guys who have had issues in the past. It isnt like most of them to just show up at your house without cause and I know from a few I know personally if you are rude or suspect of illegal activities you will be harassed constantly so you know you are being watched. The lack of details in your thread makes me wonder why you are having repeated visits?? Just as an example. a buddy of mine is a former OPP, he stocked a pond he had dug on his property with trout and bass. One day he is up in his treestand hunting at the back side of the pond and a truck comes down the twp road and pulls into the trail to his pond. Two guys get out, assemble their rods and reels and begin fishing. He says looked like they knew the spot and had been there before. They never expected him in his stand and when he climbed down to confront them one spotted him, let a yell to his buddy and they took off a.s.a.p. He couldnt get the lic.# but looked the truck over close as he was sure he had seen it in the area before. Sure enough a few days later his neighbour reports where its parked, he goes and looks, gets the lic# and callls a guy he knows in the OPP still. Those two guys cant move now without getting ticketed , he also reported them to the local C.O for his district and he says they will be lucky if they can load a firearm this fall without having a C.O looking over their shoulders. Never know who you may tick off or have ticked off!!
