25-06

I cant find many 7STW's, 7x61's & 358 Normas for sale on the sponsor sites either, that must mean they suck too.............

Ammunition availability is often indicative of a cartridges popularity.

Federal lists (6) 25-06 and (3) .260 choices, (1) 7STW (0) .264 Winchester, 7x61 or 358 Norma

If we decide to take popularity as a measure of a cartridges worth, the 25-06 comes out on top, the .260 close behind and the rest of the cartridges mentioned here don't even register...

Is it a popularity contest? Cause the 30-06 still wins.:p

I look forward to hunting tomorrow with my 5.75lb 260, loaded with wonderful, sleek, ###y 130gr Accubonds. Let's see a 25-06 do that ;)

But in my case, I never came out and said, "the 7x61 is the best or WINS" over another caliber, nor did I say, the "358 NM is the best or WINS" that's more your style. I just use, shoot and accept them for what they are. Neither have I come out, using your example of maturity saying, "this sucks" or "that sucks". For me, it'll be a spectator sport in that I'll sit back and let you make ignorance audible.

almost as ###y as your moose medallion ;)

btw windage adjustable mounts are ticking time bombs

Better Mark?

You wear that moose thing around your neck on a chain? Like Bruno Gerussi? :p

Actually, it's a trivet that was given to me as a gift by a friend aware of my interests hunting my favorite big game animal. It sits on the coffee table in my den, and usually used when having hot meals while I'm watching hockey games. Go Habs:p

Mine must have been powered by atomic clocks, because they are still ticking.:D

I have used the Leupold rear windage screw bases on 7mmstws,300RUMS,338x8mmremmag,and many others, and I have yet to have a problem with any of them.I guess it does help if you torque them properly, which a lot of people don't.

Never had a problem with mine either. Actually, the first set I got is what's on my Savage in the picture. I've recently purchased a Husqvarna in 270 Win and a set was on that as well.

So the answer to "is the .25-06 a good deer/coyote rifle" is:

1. Yes
2. Sierra bullets are accurate
3. Schultz & Larsen rifles are awesome
4. You don't need a heavy bullet in a .300 Magnum if you use TSX
5. The .260 Rem is better
6. If the .260 Rem is better, then the .264 Win Mag is even better
7. The .260 Rem is just a poseur 6.5x55
8. VLD, A-Max, Matchkings and Scenars may or may not be good for big game hunting
9. The recoil of a .25-06 may get your dress dirty - if it does a .260 Rem is better
10. Elephants and Cape Buffalo may or may not be large game, and Elk and Moose may or may not be medium game, unless the former are dangerous game, in which case the latter are large game.
11. The A-Max is suitable for thin skinned game
12. When hunting 300-600 yards is long range, even though for target shooting it is mid-range - except if where you hunt has well spaced wind flags. However none of that counts if you are hunting gophers.
13. A rifle needs to be ~5.75lbs and a short action to be comfortable enough to haul around the country-side. What would Chuck Hawks think?
14. The .25-06 vs .260 Rem debate is stupid because the 7mm-08 is better than both
15. The recoil of a .270 Win shooting 130gr bullets at 3100 fps in a 9lb rifle is 17.46 ft-lbs
16. Some people like apples and some like oranges
17. Using percentages when comparing recoil can lead to confusion
18. The 7mm STW, 7x61 S&H and the .358 Norma Mag are not popular. They suck.
19. The 7mm STW, 7x61 S&H and the .358 Norma Mag are not popular. They don't suck.
20. Moose medals and Accubonds may or may not be ###y
21. Windage adjustable bases are not good and Talleys are - unless you torque the windage adjustable bases, except if you are using Burris rings, because in that case you should use Talleys.

1899 where were you 140 or so posts ago, could have saved a whole lot of cyberspace:cheers:. Your post gets the win IMO. This thread get "most arguementative of the week" again IMHO:HR:

I didn't know any of that stuff before. Except the recoil of the .270 Win. I knew that.

I've used the windage adjustable rear/quarter turn front bases almost exclusively forever. Forever to me is about 30 years. I've never had one even loosen off nevermind fail. I've always wondered if a longrange shooter used non-adjustable rings, how could they ever maximize their elevation clicks? Because the farther the windage turret turns to originally zero a scope, the less accurate the elevation clicks become. It's a physical fact of all scopes with tubular shaped erectors.
