Bow Hunters - Arrogance ??

ive seen this additude with some bow hunters i have guided for moose and sheep. i one guy hunt with me and his buddy hunted with a different guide in camp, they were the most arrogant pricks i have seen in camp up north. i couldnt stand themand was happy when their float plane came to take them out of camp.

i have guided and hunted the same camp as some of the best bow hunters in the world that just had a passion for the bow, they liked the extra challenge.

to each his own i dont care if i shoot some thing with my bow, muzzle loader or rifle. if i want that animal i will try and get it with what ever i have in my hands at the time. crossbows are some thing i will never hunt with unless i get crippled up some how and cant draw a real bow.

not all bow hunters have it and the hunters who take a bow and a rifle to sit are not bowhunters. if you want to hunt with a bow leave the gun at home and use the bow.

My oldest hunting buddy and I see the difference between a crossbow vs compound/recurve/longbow......but it doesn't really matter.

We're all in the same boat.

I figure if a deer comes close enough to my stand, I can jump right on top of him and take him with a blade....which brings a whole new (ancient-barbaric) method of taking an animal. Not sure of the legalities of it however... :D

I think it is wrong to generalize hunters into "groups" and I truly believe that a hunter who turns his nose up at another style of hunting should look long and hard at himself before passing judgement. I personally don't hunt with muzzleloader or archery, I think that they are very worthwhile pursuits but have never gotten into it myself. Likely because my hunting time is limited and I can't branch into everything - right now I want to learn about Migratory Bird hunting and get set up properly for it. That being said I have seen some hunters who tend to have the I am a better hunter then you because I use method X attitude but they are few and far between. Frequently they are like that because they haven't tried other forms of hunting...

There is the latest quote that I am reffering to from a different thread .Kinda dissapointing that this was posted in a hunting forum!

"Pretty tough to push bush with a group of bowhunters! too much arrogance to get anything done. I would love to see that though! Haha

Anyways, I thought we were talking about rifle hunting whitetails and getting shot at by road hunters. For a guy to get hit at 200 yards, the shooter was definately not aware of his surroundings. "

I don't believe that there is a wedge between rifle hunters and bow hunters, but I will say there is a sort of je ne sais quoi air about oneself when walking into the bush with stick and string. I think this may be what you're referring to, or perhaps feeling.

Regardless, you cannot deny the fact that honing your bow-hunting skills, without question, makes you a far "better" hunter.

I bow hunt with a compound, xbow and rifle. I subscribe to all methods of legal hunting.

Cheers

thats funny.

pushing bush is my least favorite way of hunting. cant judge a deer when its sprinting away, low % running shot and a high% of wounding deer.

im a spot and stalk and use my glasses alot more than most guys. its amazing what you can see when you start looking for it.

kelly do you hunt the bow zone alot? thats good deer country, took my first bow buck there in 07.

Bow hunting is challenging because you need to be within a very specific range of the animal. (30 yards give or take)

All us hunters know that it's not a simple task getting that close to your quarry.

Now, tacking an animal at 400yards with a rifle is not necessarily an easy task either.

The bottom line...successful hunting requires wisdom, patience, perseverence and luck.

Your choice of tool for the job makes you no better or worse than the next guy.

I've hunted more with my bow this year than any other year....and I'm having a whole lot of fun! And that's all that matters.

I haven't seen it and I'm an avid bow hunter , crossbow hunter, rifle and shotgun. I just love being in the woods . Most crossbow hunters also eventually go to compounds or traditional. the same Skills get developed in anyform of hunting. Guys that think that one style is superior to another need to get there act together and combine with others in our rights to hunt . The only way antis can win is divide and conquer.as united hunters we can educate others and put more on our side and ensure our children can also join the sport .hunting is not traditional in my family but you can bet it will be. I had a bad experince this weekend and took me a few days but I'm back and you can bet I will take out young and old for romps in the woods being with gun or bow

My father in law has this attitude. Dude thinks he's freaking Geronimo. Then again he has the same arrogance with everything he does.......he's just a complete arrogant prick come to think of it!

I don't hunt with him anymore as you just can't get him to shutup long enough to stop telling you how it should be done or why didn't you do it like this. He also has the sharpest knives ever....and why aren't yours as sharp as his?

Yep, he's and arrogant #######.........but put a compound bow in his hand.....you can triple this equation easily. I told him this that last time we were out and know he doesn't call ...which couldn't of worked out better for me. Don't have to warn everyone about him before he arrives.

I'm considering going to the Dark Side and trying bowhunting.
I've downgraded my rifle hunting to turn-of-the-century calibers and BP.
I like hunting and it rankles me a bit to see someone drive up in a pick-up or quad, step out(or off) and shot a deer at 400-500 yards with the latest magnum calibur.
I think that the deer deserves a more sporting chance than that. They can't out run a vehicle and at anything under 0.5 km they are easy meat.
Hardly any deer around home this year and I'm still refusing to magnum up. If I can't walk and stalk to a reasonable kill distance ( under 200 m ) , then the deer gets to live on.
I can understand the arrogance of stalking and killing at 70-80 m vs. knocking them over at 400-500.
But a laugh ( real one ) after teasing someone might keep things lighter.
IMO.
No offence intended
Stay safe

I don't care how people hunt. That quote on the other thread was back to a bow hunter that was calling pushing bush lame.

To me, hunt however you want to, and be proud of it. Shouldn't have to defend your method of hunting with other hunters.

As far as arrogance goes, every hunting style has arrogant guys thinking their way is the best. I'm one of them, I like pushing bush and think its the best. That's just my opinion though, doesn't mean I'm right. Bow hunters think they're super sneaky and don't stink. Long range guys think they're snipers. In the end it doesn't matter. As long as you're out enjoying yourself in the field.
Sorry for stirring up all the trouble fellas, just that guy saying pushing is lame made me want to defend it a bit.

Oh I know this story.
There's an old lad where we live who's always asking my neighbour and I to come and hunt with him. He's too old to do much, so he needs the young fella's out there. Really, I have no problem with the motives, it's just the part that he NEVER shuts up, always has a one-up story, can't learn anything from anyone younger because he knows everything, and if you do get game when you're hunting with him, he'll take the credit and go around town telling everyone how you were successful because he brought you to the game.

My neighbour goes out with him because he has permission on lots (LOTS) of land for hunting.

I can't be bothered.....the BS isn't worth the extra acreage.

I bow hunt the early season and rifle hunt the rest, there is only one thing i dont like about bow- some times its not a quick death. or as quick as a bullet most times i should say. but i do really enjoy bow hunting.

I do both, and it's comparing apples to oranges. I mean, if someone could shoot, say, a 1/4 moa 3 shot group at 100 yards with a bow, then maybe they'd have a reason to be a little cocky :)
