Is there a benifit to having a chrome lined barrel ?????? It does add cost to the rifle and if everyone is concerned about the costs then way have a chrome lined barrel.
You'll get a big increase in barrel life regardless of what kind of ammo you use. And in this country (where replacement parts/barrels from the US are in the process of being banned or heavily regulated) you want maximum life (so you don't need to replace stuff so much) out of your wearing parts/surfaces. If you do a lot of shooting, chrome lined is the way to go IMHO

. They tend to jam less from semi and full autos as well.
In the past, chrome lining was another manufacturing step that could affect (negatively) internal barrel accuracy/consistency if not done correctly (just like anything else). So that's probably where the part about these barrels not being accurate came from.
Chrome lining has been done for a long time now. Reputable makers are doing a very consistent job nowadays. I believe the Knight SR-25 rifles are chrome lined and are guaranteed half moa rifles. Amoung affordable rifles the FN tacticals are chrome lined and have an excellent reputation for accuracy. I had a (much older) Steyr SSG 69 which is also chrome lined and is more accurate than the brand new M-24 I once tried out.
What I'm trying to say is don't buy into the "chrome lined barrels aren't accurate myth". Nowadays, I'm not sure you could measure the difference from a quality manufacturer, let alone be able to be good enough of a shot to see a difference. If there is an appreciable price difference (between chrome-lined barrels and non lined), I'm sure it's more than made up for by the costs of having to get a new barrel and hire a gunsmith to install it when the time comes.
Now, if I can only find a way to chrome line my bowels!
