I was out hunting this afternoon, taking advantage of the first real snow of the year. Ended up only seeing three does, no mature bucks.
But on the ride home I spotted a nice 2 1/2 year old 4x4 standing in a neighboring landowners pasture, about 150 yards off the road. I took a good look through the binos, and then turned down the side road and continued on.
I hadn't made it a quarter mile when I saw another truck hit the brakes at the corner. Some thing about it gave me a bad feeling, so I did a quick U-turn, and headed back. Because of the lay of the land, he couldn't see me coming till I was about 200 yards away. As I came over the hill, all I saw was a rifle barrel being yanked back into the cab, and the window rolling up as the truck took off in a cloud of dust! The poor dumb buck was still standing in the same spot, never knowing how close he came! I just don't get some idiots who call themselves hunters, this guy was about to shoot off the road, from the truck, after legal time, on land where he didn't have permission.

Well, if there is any truth in Karma, that buck will turn into a MONSTER & you will see him again!

As for the road hunters & hunting on land that they don't have permission on... I hope Karma catches up with them to!

Cheers
Jay

Welcome to hunting in Southern Manitoba it seems. There's a lot of that going on lately. In the first few days of General Rifle season I watched this happen quite a few times already.

It's not even like they are acting out of desperation at the end of the season. They haven't even bothered to try...

Where's fluffy when you need him...

At work today they announced on the radio some stats from this fall by the MNR. They went on to say that this years "blitz" by conservation officers netted 280 charges being laid, over 250 warnings being issued and many animals seized during the month of October alone. 6500 hunters were checked. That is about 12% of the hunters being checked doing things illegally. That is not a small percentage IMO. Definitely not !!

The number of "hunters " breaking the law is staggering. My hunting partner always says hunting season brings out the worst in people, and I'm starting to agree. I live in an archery only zone, the exception being a one week shotgun/muzzleloader season for antlerless deer only. A few years ago I ran into the wardens doing a patrol during the antlerless season, they had checked 7 or 8 other hunters that morning, I was the only one that they didn't charge with something! Unbelievable!!

There is way to much of this stuff happening, what happened to parking the truck walking off into the bush to post on stand or stillhunt and enjoy the hunt, the outdoors and fairchase.

In most of Manitoba, I would say after 30 plus years of chasing whitetails, that at least 50 percent of deer hunters are of the common road warrior variety:(

onto someone's property that you don't have permission for.

i'm still fairly new to hunting (this is my first year) but what i have been hearing is that if the land is not posted "no hunting" "no trespassing" or something along those lines it is implied that you can hunt there.

i am not condoning him hunting after hours or from the truck, but i didn't see the OP mention it was posted land.

if i'm way off let me know

Not to disagree with you but keep in mind that the #1 ticket the MNR gives out in the hunting season is no helmet on an ATV - by a long shot.

Frankly, there just are not enough COs in Ontario to cover the province effectively. IIRC there are only 250-260 COs in the entire province.
