Ok... maybe 30 min before the legal time to end Hunting last night we where 200yard in a field right off the pipe line then we seen a doe and a fawn (what we thought was a doe and fawn) running across the pipe line to the side we where on maybe 500 yards from us.
At that point I did not want to take a shoot seeing it would have to be a free hand shot. But I thought “what the hell” ill shoot the big one. So I cranked my scope up and give it a shot and missed. The deer ran up maybe 20ft if that and stopped. Then I tried to move up to them. And they ran. Into a bush. Witch I knew real well seeing it’s where I hunt

. So I RAN to the field where I thought they would go (600 yards so away) and slipped on my ass maybe 2-3 times on the way. (we had 3” of snow in the last 24hrs and it was snowing all day ). So I walked down the bush line and around the corner I seen them maybe 230-250 yards from me and it looked like the “fawn” screwing the doe… so picked up my gun and “**ck” I had snow all over my scope lens so I had to clean it off. then I looked in my scope and thought WTF that’s not a fawn it’s a 12 point (6x6) buck!! And one Big doe.

At this time they where standing beside each other. . So now I hunt the meat and I new I wanted the meat so I shot at the doe and dropped her in her tracks. (Spine shot. Right on top of the front shoulders. (I shoot 4 others in the same spot this year and they all dropped the same way)

then the Buck Ran like hell and I fired off 3 more shots at him as he was Running in the field. Missed them all 100% then I was out of ammo.. And I walked up to the doe and MAN that was a big doe. (And the buck was still maybe 600 yards watching me… but I had no ammo. ( I did walk up to where he was to make sure 100% I did not hit him.) and now I was maybe 1500 yards from the truck. DAM we did not get out of there till 8:00 at night.

days like that make me wish i had my quad with me.

I don’t know what the doe weights I don’t have a way to fine out.

(o ya.. that’s me in the picture and I am 6 foot 3 inch)_

AND PLEASE DON’T Bug me for my Grammatical Errors my spell check is not working right.

You must have exceptional eyesight! For me to accurately count the number of points on a buck from 200 plus yards at last light would be tough. Congrats. on the eater whitetail... but why did you hang it from the head though?

to drop the gutz. after that we did it by the back feet.

i had a look at them both before i shot the doe. i was going to shoot her in the heart but i thougt it was too late in the day for that. so i shot hear in the spine.

(also i thought maybe it was a mule deer) so i had a good look to make sure.

ill know forsure when i go back sunday to shoot him!

(when the deer was stoped and watching me.. i had no ammo left. but i put my scope on max and had a look. i dont know 100% for sure that it was a 6x6 but i seen what i thought was 6 on each side.

Here in Ontario we field dress them where we shoot them.... ;) Saves a mess in the shop.

That's actually a good-sized doe and I would be quite happy filling my tag with that one.

I took a doe a few weeks back that was average size. Very good meat. There were only three of us this year, so we weren't able to push, but rather set up our own points. I was only able to see the doe when I took the shot, but a huge buck came running out only moments later. Hopefully, I will meet up with him next year.

I like the younger animals, as the meat is tender and better tasting.

Um... shop has heat.
And it was way to dark out.

And I don’t like to drop the gutz when i hunt. i am scared that it would scare the deer away.

It comes with practice. In and out in 5 minutes tops and leaves some good yote bait. I do however drag at least several hundred yards from where I hunt although I've shot deer over gutpiles (and a wolf kill buck once before) and it didn't seem to bother them....

There's a chart that will estimate the live weight if you measure the girth behind the front legs.
Nice deer, I'm going to guess 46" girth, 290 lbs live weight.
