9.3x62 vs 375 ouch&ouch
This is my first post!! I,m almost finished a custom "MOOSER" on a 1908 dwm LR action. Found a barrel on Gunsamerica and shipped to Buddy in NY who has a cabin near my farm. I know its a lot cheaper(500/700$) to buy one bUT this is MINE!! The recoil is 35 Whelen type and is the only sub caliber allowed to the 375 in Africa for the big fellas. I'll post more as work proceeds. Have dies/ brass/bullets in various wts and makes but could some more loads.

You know, I think I'd probably go with the 9.3x62 as well.
Here are my reasons:
1. You can easily make it work in an M98 Mauser
2. You can easily have a magazine capacity of 4 or 5
3. Bolt thrust is much less than the .375 H&H; this is good for the action
4. Recoil is much lower than the .375 H&H
5. Brass is easy and cheap to form
6. More than adequate for all game, including large bears
7. Due to lower recoil, can be used comfortably in a light, compact rifle.
8. Shoots flat enough to comfortably take game at all reasonable ranges.
and probably more stuff that I can't remember. I saw a brilliant article on the 9.3x62 a few months ago. I'll try to find it.

I have a 9.3x62 in the works. M70 with a Boyds Pepper Laminate. I'm putting a Montana barrel on it then getting it powder coated black. I'm going to have sights installed too and quick detach Talley's. I'll try and get the Talley base with the flip up peep sight but they are on a long back order.
I agree that the 9.3x66 is more of a debate against the 375.

Being able to use a standard lenght action is the greatest advantage to me.
A 9.3x62 with a long lead and loaded up to nearly 60,000psi will do 2500fps out of a 24" bbl.
Also take a look of the BC of the 286g partiton vrs the 300g 375 partition.
For "light stuff" such as moose there is also the 250g balistic tip for the quick expanding guys. There is no longer a 375 balistic tip made.

A little bit of an overstatement!
Niether the 9.3x64 nor the 9.3x66 are comparable due to very expensive brass/ammo, IF you can find it. I've read some first hand reports that the 9.3x66 barely outperforms the 9.3x62, although it would be nice to actually meet someone who has had both.
How about this load, from a 23.5" barrel (this is from "Quickload")
300gr Swift A-Frame over 61.3gr H414 giving 2,300 fps and only 44,864 psi

Although I admittedly went past saying it *kicks the #### out of* it does beat it by about 250 fps on average..............and oh yeah, I have owned several .375, never bothered with the 9.3 though.

I guess if you are solely a numbers kind of guy. Did you notice how low the pressure was on the load I quoted?
Plus I'd wager the 9.3 load I listed would out-penetrate the .375 load you listed. Your load did, after all, use the Sierra, which has the consistency of a jelly bean!
Seriously, up to 200 yards I can't see where that particular load in the .375 would be better.

Anyone who has loaded .375s knows its no real trick to hit 2600 with 300 gr. bullets. Powerwise the 375 wins. Actual performance on game is another thing. I've never owned a 9.3 but I suspect out to 250 yrds. there probably isn't much difference. Wadeing up a salmon steam I'd go for the .375.

Hmm...I've thought about making off with the Mauser Action that sits on the Old Man's desk and doing a 9.3x62. But I'd like the 375 as well. The true gunnuttery is that the 9.3 is less common and the obscure always raises eyebrows. That's worth something when you're a loony.

I have a Tikka T-3 Lite in 9.3x62
In a 6 1/4 lbs rifle I would not want a .375 That round is better off in a heavier rifle. The thinking behind the 9.3x62 is the heaviest bullet you can get in a standard length action and non-belted brass. Comparing the two is really an apples and oranges thing.

I have a 9.3x62 in a CZ 550 i purchased last winter.I hunted with it last year and took a huge moose one shot a 150 yards and a 270 grain speer just over 2500fps.Very impressed with the performance poor moose never new what hit him,bang flop and never even twitched.4000 lbs muzzel energy is all any one needs.This year I am going to use 286 grain Norma's at 2450fps.Why Not has had several 9.3x62's that's who convinced me to buy one and i'm sure glad he did.
