High asking price of used scopes

How come people seem to want to sell their used scopes for darn near as much as you would pay for new? I'm not saying there are some deals to be had, but I've seen a lot of optics in EE that were so close to retail you'd have to be nuts to buy the used one.
 
I find with Leupolds, some people just don't know the difference. I'm sorry but your Vari-X III 3.5-10x40mm is not the same scope as a VX3 3.5-10x40mm, and is worth about 50% of your asking price.
 
It's not just the scopes that people tend to list high, I've seen many used guns trying to be sold on this site for more than the retail price. I've got no problem paying fair price for a quality rifle, but certainly won't pay retail for a used item.

I guess some people just try to make a buck and take advantage of others lack of knowledge.

The adds with the ridiculous prices usually contain the word "rare".:D
 
I don't think people realize that just because they paid $###x for a scope or rifle at WSS that that same item can't be found at a much better retail price by shopping around.They are asking too much used because they paid too much new. Mur

That is one reason.The other is that they believe that they have something that is rare or special,when in fact, it is a normal production gun.There are adds in the EE asking double the new price,for this reason.
 
I agree, when shopping around, I find the name should be changed to nothing is wss< and of course the people selling there used must have bought the best one ever built new. Why are they selling?? You will never hear,,, the reason for selling is because there is a problem.
 
I just found a Nikon scope with sunshade and rings for $800. The scope new is $539 at WSS, sunshade, say $50 and rings $? But it does include shipping. oh ya, includes the box too.;)

go to a gun show in southern ontario to see asking prices well above retail .The statment I like is "ya but you dont pay tax"
 
Jokes on the seller, the more you see BTT the more out to lunch they are.

Then if they don't get what they paid for it they don't sell it.

If it is a fair and appropriate price it will sell. If not, it stays for a very long time. Every BTT means it has been there a week.
 
cause theyre waiting for the cyber-shopping dummies who dont wanna waste their time to go look at the product before they buy the item or the guy who doesnt research the product for the easy sell!! outta the couple thousand looking theres ALWAYS 1 idiot who will buy it! dont get yourself in a knot.
 
Who cares? If you don't like the price, move on, just how democracy works everyone can ask what they want. No body owes anybody a deal. If someones too lazy to shop around and educate themselves on the price that is their own fault NOT the fault of the seller, no one is forced to buy at the asking price so not a single solitary soul is taking advantage of anyone on this site by asking a price, if they misrepresent the item then that is taking advantage of someone but asking high prices is not misrepresenting an item.

I'll have you know that I have bought and sold probably 30 scopes on the EE, and does my trader rating look like I was selling junk? Guns change, optics and needs change....simple as that.

Now why don't you go look for some other excuses as to why you have that stunning rating....blaming the sellers isn't going to work.

You would think that some guys that keep bumping it and not changing there price would figure it out that maybe they were asking a bit to much huh?

Been looking for a certain scope on here for 3 months now and theres one even on here. Only one problem, they're asking way to much. It looks to me like they looked on Ebay at the same scope and saw all of the "buy it now" scopes priced at double what they're worth and figured theres is the same. Meanwhile the idiot on Ebay has had the scope up there for the last 5 months cause he's a moron and figures he'll take someone for their hard earned cash sooner or later.
 
There are some guys asking ridiculous prices for stuff on the E&E, but you can get good deals sometimes too. I think the good deals don't stick around for long. You can always make an offer to the ridiculous guys I guess.
 
An "Asking Price" is just that...
A starting point and maybe someone is looking for the exact same thing right then right now. The person buying may not have to move farther than the chair they are sitting at to purchase xyz brand of optic.
You dont like the price, you dont have to reply.
