OK I know it's a laser sight of some sort, but specifically what brand is it? Are they legal? Who sells them? Does it actually project a visible beam? or does it just put a red dot on the target?

well as for the visible beam part, if there is a mist or particles in the air the light will be refracted and reflected thereby showing the beam to an observer. so if there is nothing in the air for the light to be reflected/refracted off of, then you will only see the 'dot' it makes.

hope you figure it out, that laser looks neat!

i dont know much but maybe an IR laser? not practical for civis but its meant to look like a forces rifle maybe? i haven't a real clue and if you cant tell im talking out my ass:D

Sorry for the short replay, i think google can do a better job than me, but here it goes. This is the short version: super expensive, all IR, nice toy but the few people who can used them they don't. No use for civie life other than a nice rail addition and Insight sells better units for a fraction of the PEQ/ANPEQ. I have an MX6 and is fun.....
Cheers

Not a PEQ 2:

This is what is pictured:

Now what is is I do not know. The only references to it I could find were from asian airsoft sites.

And for getting one is Canada probably not going to happen. If it is made in the states it will be covered by ITAR and restricted to LE and military sales. You can by NV and laser stuff from other countries or from Canadian sellers.

YMMV

I think you are right. That is a chinese version of the DBAL -A2 aka PEQ15a or the LDI OTAL. Both laser units used by us sf are the only square units. Both units they have visible beams so yes you can see the beam in the dark.

Yeah, especially about the "not practical for civis" part. :stirthepot2:

We are almost to the point where there are TWO distinct classes where there was just one; "citizens" & "civilians", and god help us when it is no longer implied and is actually written into law.

So the beams that you see in the movies are just fake?

Not fake, they just use a haze/mist/smoke effect in the air to make the laser beam visible. Otherwise, those lasers would only project a red/green dot on surfaces without the aid of that special effect.

As a point in fact, no soldier or LE officer who uses laser sights would ever want their laser beam to be visible. It's already bad enough they have to point a light (the laser) at something, but to have a visible line leading directly back to you.... :slap:

If it were an IR unit you would not see the beam without an IR capable device, no matter how much smoke, dust, atomized hair gel was in the air. You can wave a PEQ 2 or PAC 4 all night long in the dust in Afghanistan and unless some one has an IR capable vision device you won't see it.

Like Demon971 said the ones in the movies are enhanced and they are in the visible spectrum of light to begin with.

Apparently they are known to emit copious amounts of radiation and have been turning unsuspecting users testicles into what could be best described as two cocktail peanuts. Please use this device with caution.

Its a Laser Devices OTAL.

If you want a nice small laser, go with the Lasermax Unimax:

They are a bit expensive but very well made. You can set the laser anywhere from slow pulse to solid-on. Battery life is not too bad.

You CAN get a green beam version but the battery life is cut drastically.

If you want a visible green beam laser, get a 1" laser with windage and elevation and a 1" scope ring for it.

ETA

As for VISIBLE green beam, you can see the visible beam at 5mw but very faint and only if there is dust and stuff. If you want a GOOD solid beam, you will want 15-25mw or higher, BUT KEEP IN MIND THEY ARE DANGEROUS. (50mw would be very visible)

Even limited exposure to your eyes can damage your retina! If you're using one inside or indoors, be careful not to get the laser beam (or the reflection) in your eyes.
