so iv been creeping the forum for a while and reading as much as i can, iv been an avid shooter since i was 12 (26 now) but im just starting to get into the long range stuff (750-1000 yards) just for the sake of trying some thing new. but as much as i can read there are still a few choices for me that im finding difficult. and would like some real world input.
my rifle is a savage arms 110ba in .338 lapua, but im torn on the scope, iv been looking at the night force NXS 12-42x56, or the 5-25 x 56 Police Marksman by schmidt and bender. these are the two recommendations iv gotten from the local shop from the long range shooter there. which would you go with? or another option i should look at? i guess it should be noted that i am color blind and the more magnification and clearer resolution at full magnification i can get the better off i am.
now what of bases / rings? the gun does have a muzzle brake so they shouldnt be taking to bad of a s**t kicking but i still like heavy duty.
thanks for the input! and off back to the creeping and reading i go
and just a little FYI ive been reading and alot of guys say that the 338 is a bad rig to "learn" distance / precision on due to the cost of ammo and teaching bad habits due to recoil, when it comes to that part im fine, my "plinking" gun for the range right now is a tika t3 lite in .338WM with no recoil pad or brake
