how do you pronounce coyote?

either one is correct apparently...

h ttp://dictionary.reference.com/browse/coyote

When I lived in NS, it was always the first way you put it... now that I'm in Alberta it seems that it is usually (~75%) the second way.

Yotes or Mutts.

Lil mother ####ers sure love kibbles and bits tho god damn.

Used to feed the coyotes outside my old work by hand on some nights when I'd be out on a smoke break.

Manager thought I was flipping crazy but the dogs can read me and know I love me all.

I guess if I had to pick one it would be the 1st way or a version of it.
Dam I was born and raised in west virginia and moved to cape breton in the 60's. I am lucky I can speak some form of english.:D
All I know is both brothers still in the US laugh at me talking when I go back for visits.

Me: KI-oat

But I've heard it, locally, as KEY-oot as well. A good buddy of mine pronounces that way.
Being from Ontario, originally, it took me a while to figure out what the hell they were talking about.

I had always pronounced it the first way, then I started hanging around rednecks who said it the sencond way. I now use both depending on my mood and the company present.

Ky-oats is probly the most common pronounciation here, although yotes, yoties,or just plain dogs will work.Alot of oldtimers (and some youngsters)here still call'em coy-dogs,since when they first appeared decades ago many (mistakenly)beleived that they were a hybrid of western yotes and domestic dogs.I hate that term personally and don't beleive that theory. If anything,I think eastern yotes are more likely hybridized with red wolves or the eastern timber wolves of the Adirondacks/Appalachians.

I just moved to NS this year, and its almost always "Kai-Ote". I grew up in Australia and the only exposure to the word Coyote was the Warner Bros. Cartoon, so I pronounce it "Kai-Ote-Eee" - I get funny looks here when I say it that way, though.
