M14 Quick bolt release?

The point i'm making here is that I'm a human being that actually can admit he makes mistakes.

Never mind the hurting myself thing, look at the size of that release. What if your sling gets caught between the lever and the receiver and jams up the action. What if you're doing some kind of course and dirt and debris become lodged in there? It's a huge surface area.

I can almost understand a big large paddle for the mag release, but for the bolt release it's excessive. A nice little button like roosters or the SEI one is going to be just as easy to hit with your hand with no thought at all as long as you manage to contact the side of the receiver with most of your hand or palm.

There's a whole lot of "what if's" in there. If it's not your style then find another one that is.

If you can't find one that suits you, buy one of these and shorten it to your specs.

If you need a disclaimer to tell you to watch where you put your fingers.. maybe you shouldn't have a RIFLE??

I suppose if you don't like it, don't buy it, but why troll around whining and complaining if you have no intention of getting one? We get it thanks for coming out. I suppose everyone will have to focus on supplying those that do like it.
 
I have no dog in this fight, but what are the odds Navycuda from Langly BC is shilling for BC Tactical given they are bout to release a rival product???

Look, if you want a regular width tac release, order the SEI one from Brownells. they ship here to Canada, I have one on my tactical M14 and it works great. Very well made and designed - maybe the pinnacle of a non-wide tac release.

If you want more surface area to cut down on errors in fast-paced three gun type matches, then maybe this product is for you.

I'll take mine without a Ruger-style lawyer-eese roll stamp disclaimer on it, thanks.

I'm not shilling for anybody, I only stated my observations and I'm going to make no further comments in regard to that.
 
Note - Constructive criticism, so don’t take this personal - Too much surface area, more chance of being be snagged while carried and more likelihood debris would get caught between the large flat surface of the release and receiver. If someone made one in SEI or Rooster33 config I would scoop 3 right off the start.

I have nothing to do with either company - read my post above, it is intended to be constructive. Did either company research and ask what the majority of experienced users want and need in a bolt release? Why would I want a made in USA product when I could potentially buy Canadian - you listening BC tactical.

The only time the release isn't laying flush to the side of the receiver is when the bolt is locked open. What can the release snag that the op-rod handle, the sling swivels, or the sights won't snag, too?

If the bolt is being held open, debris is going to get into the open action too, not just somehow jammed in behind this bolt release.

The Rooster33 or SEI releases can also snag or catch debris. I can't see how the small extra width of the NEA will make a significant difference.
 
I don't get it. The suggestion that these latches cause inadvertent release or get debris and snag?

What do some of you think about this like the Magpul BAD?

Functionally, I can't see the NEA being much different from a Smith or the Rooster, just aesthetically.

If someone makes a copy of the SEI model it would make them a thieving pirate. If you want one like the SEI model, buy the SEI model. Do you want Canada to be known as the china of the fire arms manufacturing industry? I don't understand the mindset of some of you, "if the Americans wont send it here cheap, lets copy it".
 
Wide or not, I'm looking forward to trying one of these units. I've never upgraded my bolt lock and made do for many years by rotating the rifle over on one side and 'slapping' the op rod handle during the rapid fire reloads. Works for me. :D

Now with this wider paddle, things could get faster! We'll find out! ;)

Has anyone actually posted a price per unit?
I did a quick read thru 3-4 page's and saw a lot of bickering but no actual availability or price.

As for WWIII I rarely want to trash talk about some 1 but he is defiantly the exception I would make to the rule.

Now these do look good but I will know for sure once this badboy gets a chance to be put threw it's paces.
Also why is there a lip located at the bottom of the bolt release? Is this to make it easier when racking the oprod back to keep the bolt open? If so can that tab be enlarged just a bit?

They probably just copied that feature from original GI bolt releases.

I am fully aware of patent issues and knockoffs hence my previous posts denouncing patent infringement on SEI products in the Battle rifle forum on this very subject - do a search.

To make it clear - when I say config it means same general idea - its up to the manufacturer to make the item different enough to avoid patent infringement - not up to the buyer. If BC tactical is a knockoff I won’t buy it - I will denounce it as in my previous posts on the subject.

If you can’t take constructive criticism on your product too f...ing bad - suck it up.
