I have not seen any reviews or threads on this rifle. I was looking for a starter longer range rifle and wondered if this might be it. They have some on the frontier site. Any opinions?
 
doesnt shoot too badly, however, the lack of a magazine is a major downer. Personally, I would go for the cheaper savage package, theres more you can do with it and they shoot quite well for the money.

If you're looking at the combo scope/gun, the barska scope is a pos, and the rings and bases come loose on a regulare basis. At least, that was my personal experience!
 
I too looked at this rifle as a very inexpensive way to get back into long-range shooting...

But the price (and lack of DBM, like mentioned above) compared overall to the other rifles on the market lead me to believe it's not what I want...

Remington 700 SPS Tactical or VTR are what I want to check out first...

Have you looked @ the Mossberg 4x4 synthetic...?
 
Absolute garbage, and unless they've fixed the major design flaw on the bolt, quite possibly dangerous to the shooter. Google "mossberg night trainwreck" for the ugly details.

Buy a Savage/Stevens or a Remington.
 
I agree with Stevebc. They are crap. Do a search on CGN and you will find this question gets asked almost monthly by those that still haven't figured out that you get what you pay for.
 
Thanks for the feedback. I was hoping this would be a good rifle with a poor scope that I could upgrade later. Looks like it is just junk.
 
If you google the name you will find many reviews...most negative to say the least. But all Mossbergs should not be lumped into one pile. I have a few Mossberg .22 that shoot phenominal.
 
I'd rather shoot a proof load through a Chauchat than be seen holding one of those rifles let alone pay for it.

I asked the same question when I got itno longer ranges. The price is right, the gun looks good, but after a furious shift at work googling everything I could about it, I decided to say hell no! I asked on CGN here as well. Not worth the risk, because that bolt problem is downright terrifying!

Jumped all over a 700 SPS Tact in .308 though! Glad I didnt get the Night Trainwreck!
 
bolt issue has been fixed. I just bought one this past spring and I have fired over 200 rounds through it. NOT ONE PROBLEM occurred during the work up, not even an FTF.
It shoots well, but the internal magazine and the scope rail make it a little difficult to load, however, I like mine and I will be keeping it.
I suppose that the beloved new model Remingtons or Winchesters have never had problems? Or are those reviews I read only in my head?

:agree:I bought one of these this fall. Fired over 300 rounds down the pipe so far, no problems. Wish people would stop slamming firearms they have never held, much less fired. How many good movies, cars, books as well as firearms have been panned by critics who have never given them a fair chance. All the major gunmakers have had POS in their lineups. One of the biggest lemons I ever owned was a Browning A-Bolt: sloppy bolt, poor finish and couldn't hit a barn door from inside. Remington and Winchester do not necessarily equal quality.
 
Just wanted to add a few additional comments.

I bought the night train as a coyote gun. Specifically for that . NOT a precision rifle. Handloaded with 110gn VMaxs, it shoots 3/8" @ 100yds. More than accurate enough for me. Is it a precision rifle? I do not think so. But your definition of a long-range shooter may be different than mine. I know it will put the bullet where I want it at 200yds. Head shots on coyotes out to 200yds on a calm day is not asking anything outside of this rifle. However, my definition of long range shooting is a 4" group @ 1000yds. That's why I don't shoot precision rifles, I don't have a rifle that will group sub 1/4".

You will Never shoot off of the supplied bi-pod (changed mine out before I shot it the second time). I have no issues with the scope at all.

OP, in my honest opinion, if you are looking for my type of long-range shooter, this will probably do the job, but isn't the best tool out there for it.

3/8ths 5shot group at 100yds I would LOVE to see that target! even a 3rnd clover leaf would be bigger then 3/8".....

nope you have a rifle that shoots 1/8" over a 1/4" heck that's better then nearly every factory target rifle made. You should go enter some f-class matches with that rifle you would clean up.
