That is true at least in Ontario however who is going to enforce it? The courts? They just throw it out. The MNR? Ministry of No Response. Good luck with that. I work for a native owned company and hear alot of folks talking on a daily basis of the things they are doing both on and off reserve. Nobody in Ontario is willing to enforce the laws for fear of being considered racist or stirring the Liberal's pot. Wildlife is not a concern to the McGuinty gov't, plain and simple.:(

You haven't met our local CO. I'd be willing to bet he'd charge his own mother.

I'm pretty sure where I live they can hunt crown land any time they please.

Pretty much bang on!
They do have specific areas that is thier Tribal land, but a simple Email to the chief(of another band) to get permission(written) to hunt another Bands Territory is easily accessed. So yes they can pretty much hunt where they want.

How do you know that for sure? Have you seen the legal survey?

Some tool a few years ago thought he owned it and actualy put fence across river to block canoes from using it, anyway he got slapped down and had to remove it because to his surprise he don't own it!

The water itself yes, absolutely. However the property extends to the high water mark, so unless the river changes elevation frequently (North and South Saskatchewan rivers for example), there MAY NOT be sufficient riverbank to drive a quad legally.
I have a problem neighbor, so I'm pretty well versed in trespass and property line legislation for Saskatchewan. One guy figures he owns the sand islands that fall within the borders of his 1/4 section, although he doesn't pay land tax on those acres. When you get down to the land taxes, the acres that belong to you are very well defined, and documented on the legal survey.

Not Crown Land. They can hunt their own reserve or another reserve with permission without a license, whenever they please. Crown or private land off of the reserve requires a license and to abide by the hunting regs no matter who you are.

This is where you are wrong! Might want to do your homework. It is right in the regs. Ever read them?

Do Aboriginal people need an Ontario resident Outdoors Card?

Members of Ontario Aboriginal communities having established aboriginal and treaty rights do not require an Outdoors Card or Ontario fishing licence tag to take fish for personal use within their traditional or treaty territory.

Personal use is defined as for food, social or ceremonial purposes.

Individuals should be prepared to provide identification showing their community membership.

Members of Aboriginal communities fishing outside of their traditional or treaty areas must have a valid Outdoors Card and fishing licence tag and follow the corresponding seasons, limits and exceptions.

The last part does not apply with written permission from the other aboriginal community, thus allowing them to hunt fish there without an outdoors card.

Here is the Algonquin territory map excluding the much larger area on Quebec side. All the crown can be hunted here without an outdoors card. A PAL is required though if using a firearm.
  • No fishing licence
  • No hunting licence or tags
  • No Turkey course

River is frozen, not driving on banks

Assumption is a dangerous thing.

You go out to your car, your carrying your shotgun to go do a little duck hunting. You have a trigger lock on it which is one more step then I take. The next thing you know a do-gooder see's a camo clad terrorist carrying an evil black gun, and their probably going to go on a rampage and kill dozens of people. Quick, call 911! Pretty soon Swat shows up, throws you to the ground, kicks your face and throws you in the back of a car...If they don't shoot you first.

Yup, to assume you know best must be the right thing.

this is exactly what I was thinking...with people like wood800 and a few others I may have to watch out next time I walk out to the truck with blue jeans and a jacket on and throw a rifle or shotgun in with me. Because obviously I am heading out to shoot people or pull off some armed robberies....

yikes...

Yup - that sort of thing happend to me last year. Some duddly-dew-#### must have spotted me walking in with a gun out of deer season & called the COs. Poor lads had to track me down 3 miles back in the woods to find out that all was legal. It's along the same lines as swerving to miss a pothole & have some over assuming MADD person call 911 to report a drunk driver ........

You all are a bunch of nerds, dude was hunting out of season, plain and simple, did I bother him during season? No! Good for him if season is open, but he was stupid and abused his right to hunt.

i still do not get it it is not your land. you hav e no dead animals or blood trails .why not mind your your self and leave everybody els alone .if someone called the law every time i left the houes with my guns wow DUTCH
