RFB initial thoughts, Range report ***JANUARY 31st ammo test at bottom of OP***

Just got the RFB back from threading...not left bare as was originally feared. Nicely blued to match the barrel...it did cost alittle more (than the SR22) as he had to make a jig for it. I think those after me will fair more economically now that he's got that jig made. Dlask seemed to be quite impressed with the RFB...he told me that it was a pretty good design...not at all junky like some early Kel Tec stuff. That was good to hear.

I also got the news that my compensator (FSC30) had arrived early so I'll be picking that up tomorrow. When I get all the pieces I'll try to post some before/after shots. As for the cheekrest...I did indeed get it from the guy in the states...that issue is a real sore spot now on the KTOG forum so if anyone needs the info you can PM Throttle_Monkey1 (hope thats OK with you) or myself. Just don't ask on the KTOG forum...you've been warned...

Please post a pic of the cheekrest when you have it installed.
 
Brordo- do you recommend the cheekrest? I didn't seem to have a problem without it, but when I go shooting outside I could see my cheek getting mighty cold.
 
Sorry...haven't put it on yet...I was waiting until tomorrow and putting everything on at once (so it's sitting in a box in the other room)...but would I recommend it? At this point yes...it'll not be as cold as the metal and (from pics I've seen so far) it looks better. The only way I would give it a negative is if I somehow got a lemon one and it wouldn't go on properly. I'd put it on now but the wife is giving me the evil eye (I just finished putting the SR22 back together and indexing the A2 FH)...

next cheek rest...it's actually black but the flash washed it abit...easier to put on than they let on at KTOG...and a nice snug fit!

Can you take a couple more pics of the cheek rest? Close up ones from directly above and side on?
I'm VERY interested in how that muzzle brake works. Please let us know how well it tames the recoil/muzzle flip. The RFB is a damn cool rifle eh?:cool:

Will do...but unfortunately...will have to wait until tomorrow...gotta pay the piper for the RFB upgrades by taking out the misses tonight...
 
Looks good brordo! I'm gonna keep mine unthreaded for now, The look is growing on me. Unless of course it reduces recoil/muzzle flip a lot.

Thanks very much for sharing the info... this is the best RFB load development info I have seen to date. I am wondering if the brass may end up being your limiting factor... I assume the FC brass you are using is full sized? I know everyone thinks you need to full size brass for semi autos, but try neck sizing only, you may be surprised.

When mine shows up the plan is to load some lower weight charges and fire them off treating the barrel with gun juice, sighting in the rifle and 'breaking it in' - paying little attention to accuracy. I will then do my load development with neck sized only brass. If it turns out unreliable I can always full size after, but I would hate to go through a bunch of load development with full sized cases just to repeat the process after I find out I could have been neck sizing only the whole time.
